We could use a couple of winters like that here in the North East.
White Tailed Deer are a plague on the landscape. With no predators, their population has exploded to far beyond safe capacity for the environment, to hundreds per square mile in parts of Connecticut when it should be tens.
Decimated underbrush, lyme disease and traffic accidents are just the immediate consequences.

Same here in Kansas. But our wildlife people must be smarter than yours! We’ve come up with the perfect plan to control the population of deer! Instead of opening up the season and increasing the bag limit we’ve introduced ……….mountain lions!!!!

No way this could possibly go bad. A couple of bad winters, the deer population would significantly decline. Now, I wonder what a hungry mountain lion’s response to that would be in rural America?

      • Mike Davis says:

Children do not really toughen up until they reach their teens so the introduction of Mountain Lions is a step towards Population Control!
Farm Animals will be easier prey and of course Farmers can afford to lose their livestock!
I am still waiting for a better view of the local Bobcat That consumed 6 ducks and a number of Guineas at my place. I have a FN PS90 waiting to great it!

Yeh, thousands of years of progress shot to hell……… well, back to natural selection, I guess. Bobcats, I can deal with(and apparently you can, too, but they’re hard to catch out in the open), but gee whiz, what brain surgeon thought big cats should come play with people and livestock? It isn’t like a cougar is going to pass on a young calf because it intuitively knows it isn’t a deer.

But earlier they claimed current warming would cause dramatic flooding because of snow melt!
I AM surprised that PETA is not protesting nature’s inhumane treatment of Animals!
If I slap my dog it is inhumane but if a wolf tears it apart while it is still alive it is natural. My owning cats is inhumane activity because they like to play with small critters and keep the rodent population down.
Natural selection is at work in that region and it is long overdue!

NOAA has now pirated warmcold to explain the plight of the deer.
