When one reads of these initiatives it really strikes home how little credability these organizations have, e.g. American Meteorological Society, etc. I say this because despite massive funding to clearly biased organizations, e.g. CRU, NASA, NOAA, etc., despite a massive and biased pro-AGW in the media, despite strong support from governments, e.g. European Union, and despite repeated claims of disaster that fail to materialize or attribution of actual disasters to AGW, e.g. Haiti and Japan quakes (which are obviously rubbish but necessarily recognized as such by the general population).
Despite all of this, the public remains and is increasingly skeptical of both the science and claims of the prophets of doom. I give a high five to the commen sense of the `person on the street’.
lol, they think it is still the messaging and not the message itself. For the last ten years, there has been no warming. It’s really hard to get around that. Consider ten years ago, a child of 14 years, at that time, would have heard nothing but alarmism regarding CO2 and the climate.
Now fast forward to the present. The child is a young adult, raising his/her own children now. If they haven’t already totally disregarded the doom and gloom and care to look at the data, they will see what Steve posted, or this

Well, we may be stupid, but we are not dumb. The charlatans of AGW count on dumb people in order to maintain their power and lies.
How do you know a dumb person from a smart one? Wait for the line “The science is irrefutable” to come out of their mouths. No intelligent person would say that about something that is not even a working hypothesis yet.

Google (big time conspicuous consumers & big buds with AlGore) might have had a tad more credibility had they assembled 21 fellows to determine if in fact there will be catastrophic global warming instead of presuming that there is CAGW and just coming up with ways to effectively “message” it.
As it stands it will just be more fodder for skeptical websites to rip to shreads… happy hunting
One of the 21 Fellows quoted in the article, Andrew Dessler, has no qualms about calling skeptic scientist Fred Singer a “nut case”, as found in one of the huge amounts of blogs he has at Grist: http://www.grist.org/article/the-mantle-of-galileo

…. this is a good example of “Dessler’s First Rule of Skepticism”:
“Anyone who compares themselves to Galileo is a nut case. Anytime someone compares their situation to that of Galileo, it just means they’re wasting your time.”
As University of Maryland physics professor Bob Park wrote a few years ago:
“Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo it is not enough that you be persecuted by an unkind establishment, you must also be right.”
Sadly, climate skeptics fail the second part of that test.
