There can be little doubt that CO2 is far more dangerous than a burning plume full of fission by-products. Every time I exhale I think about all the deadly toxic CO2 (EPA™) I am exposed to.

Are the German reactors built on well known fault lines?
One word – Japan.
Why the hell would you believe in safety statements from Nuclear specialists when such power plants are built in a country with a known devastating tectonic history?
Japan 1923 and 1946 alone should have shown that the country is a disaster zone. This aside from the historic geologic record. It’s no use denying that upwards of Mag 8 events have never happened in Japan.
Having said that. I’m not against Nuclear power. In the right locations it’s only logical.
No matter where it’s located how do you eliminate the volatility?
What “volatility”?
Precariousness is a better word?
Hmm. Do you actually mean “risk’? If so, there is no way to entirely eliminate that. Despite this freak event, the risk is extremely low for modern nuclear plants.
Sure, risk is fine too.
Is it worth arguing over?

Despite this freak event, the risk is extremely low for modern nuclear plants.
It was not a freak event. Earthquakes and tsunamis happen. It is not a freak thing for them to happen. Nuclear power plant accidents will happen again. What would be a freak event is if they never happened again. Nuclear power is the most dangerous way to make electricity. When these breakdowns happen it’s not just an inconvenience of having no power. It’s a horror movie.
No amount of talking will convince me that nuclear power is a-okay and risk is low.
Cutting exaggerations when advocating would go a long way in helping you to convince people.
To my mind thisis not a blackeye for nuclear, but of course all those who want us to go back to stone ages will use it so.
I know the advocates of nuclear power will go on as if this was not a detrimental day for nuclear power. Some are even treating it as a victory.
What we can do is store the spent rods at your house since nuclear is a good way to go. Sorry to be so blunt.
The truth is this day is a nightmare. There are problems with nuclear power from top to bottom. Global warming has imaginary nightmare scenarios. Nuclear power has real ones. It is astounding the amount of people that advocate such a dangerous enterprise.
The sooner LENR is developed the better.
Quote from U.K. newspaper who was again quoting another source.
These green ecotard numpties, what a bunch of whack jobs.
They don’t ever think it through though, do they?
What happens when these protester’s computers won’t switch on, their domestic heating won’t work in winter?……………. No energy for their lecky cars?
Who’ll be to blame then?
Will mother Gaia, be worth saving then, when there’s no power??
They’ll sure as sh** won’t blame themselves, will they?
Right to protest yes. But make the protest worthwhile, what about loss of freedom and the constant bleeding of civil and democratic rights in the EU?
FFS.
A day without cel phones, tv, computers, hot showers, and Starbucks (made with electricity) would take some wind out of their sails.
LENR, low energy nuclear reaction, is being developed. It should make everyone happy.

An easily solved problem – disconnect them from the grid.
An item on the news caught my attention a while ago — it mentioned that a significant percent of Japan’s electricity generation capacity had been impacted, and that they were rushing in emergency backup generators.
What? In an emergency they turn to (shock! horror!) fossil fuels? No plans to rush in solar panels and windmills? What could they be thinking?

China destroys the Planet for UK!
It makes us feel better though.
USE THORIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NAH too logical not gonna happen
They Don’t Want Coal.
Should we eat cake?
How come in my house, when I cook, the gas stove emits all that toxic gas and I don’t die? (unless something is wrong with it and it’s CO)?
Fumes from the flame of gas stoves do cause health problems.
Take down all the names of those protesting. Then shut off their power and restrict their use of any type of fossil fuels. Problem solved by this time next year!
Take away their cel phones which require a good amount of electricity to use. Let’s see how dedicated they are with the prospect of losing the luxury of texting.
I’m sorta amazed at all the people that are getting hysterical over this….
..and have totally forgotten about all the people that are in serious trouble and are going to be for a long time
It’s amazing they will protest a nuclear power plant, but they seem to care less if rogue nations, such as Iran have a nuclear power plant on the tip of a warhead. Where’s all the protests against crazy people having nuclear weapons???

Guess what even nuclear reactors are not safe now From CLIMATE CHANGE LOL
The thing that I can understand is they act like we’ve never had any extreme weather or erratic weather, ever, until “climate change.” They act as if the weather, until recent years was perfect. They still claim it’s more frequent, but all this is easily disproved. There’s something “mental” about this or they just don’t care or maybe it’s the only way they can gain some feeling of being “somebody.”

Here’s a laugh
Storms will happen anyway!
>They act as if the weather, until recent years was perfect. They still claim it’s more frequent, but all this is easily disproved.
maybe we should should tell Them to read this blog, and it would all be over? They would say, “oh, I see know what is going on”?? let’s send Them the link! Bet you wished you thought of that first.
We have our resident CLB members! If they are afflicted with Mental Bulimia they just consume whatever they want and regurgitate it without digesting anything. They are afraid their brains will grow larger if they digest real information!
Isn’t a molten salt thorium reactor inherently safe from meltdown or runaway reactions?
Isn’t such a reactor a better way to use up the spent fuel from fission reactors than very long term storage? I understand that modest amounts of such waste can be added to the thorium and salt mix and will then be converted into less or non-radioactive elements. Is that understanding all wrong or only partly wrong?
