A study made a few years ago showed no long term trend in the number of days of lying snow in Scotland stating :-

It is of interest to see that there is no long-term trend in the snow data, although there is a recent downward trend from 1993/4 to the latest year.

The study went upto 2004. Certainly the last 2 winters will have completely wiped out this short term trend.
