Americans’ Belief in Global Warming Up Slightly
By Jon E. Dougherty at 12 Apr 15:40(Newsroom America) — The number of Americans who believe global warming is occurring is up slightly after significant declines over the past three years, a new study shows, though the level is still far below pre-2008 peaks.
The study, by the Brookings Institute’s National Survey of American Public Opinion on Climate Change, also found that Americans are divided politically on the issue of climate change, with “significantly” more Democrats than Republicans believing in the phenomenon.
Of those who do, “there is general belief that this constitutes a very serious problem,” the study said, adding that “most believers [point] to both human activity and natural factors as contributing to increasing world temperatures.”
The study was done in comparison with Canada, where attitudes towards global warming are generally more favorable. For instance, the study said that while belief among Americans may be rising, “belief in climate change among Canadians substantially outpaces belief in this phenomenon among residents of the United States.”
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

They try to spin it so you are left with the impression…
….climate change = warmer
I wonder how many of those believe that yes the climate is changing and it’s getting colder…………….
Canadians let their governments – federal and provincial – do their thinking for them. They can’t be bothered to think for themselves. If the government says global warming is real, then Canadians think it’s real. And of course all the media outlets are onside with the global warming con, screaming about how the world is boiling, polar bears are dying and the arctic will be the new Florida. David Suzuki evan has his own propaganda network – the CBC, Canada’s national television network.
It’s a nightmare of stupidity up here. I’m ashamed how gullible most Canadians are.
As a fellow Canuck, I fully agree with you Owen. I teach high school science, and I am surrounded by wooly-headed liberals who (a) think that the Communist Broadcasting Corporation is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and (b) slavishly believe in AGW. One even went so far as to send an e-mail to the entire staff from some neo-Marxist website that accused Prime Minister Harper of being the greatest threat to world peace beacuse he wouldn’t sign the Copenhagen treaty! If all of Canada froze over in July, many of these idiots would blame global warming.
One other thing … in Dundas today (just outside Hamilton), it is 10 degrees C (18 F) below normal with wet snow flurries (more on the way on Tuesday)!
Canadians are proud of their frigid icebox and wouldn’t want to change it, even if it meant that they would become a viable country, assuming global warming was for real.
Canadians are taught to be polite.
When someone asks a stupid question, we smile and nod. Some people take this for agreement; when all we want is for the idiot to go away, so we can finish our beer.
Guelph… snowing now. Bundling up to go outside for a smoke. Will this oppresive warm/cold ever stop?
Canadians seem to have a natural deference to authority, more so than Americans. We are told by those seeking to justify more controlling legislation that Canadians value “peace, order and good government” above freedom. On the other hand, if we keep getting winters like the last on (it is snowing here as I post), the public may finally realize that they have been duped. Thankfully, we have M & M and some other stalwart skeptics to assuage some of my embarrassment as a Canadian.
Where is Canada again? You never know it’s there until you come across a story about it and then, “Oh ya, Canada.”

“Climate change and global warming are partly to blame for the current snow shortage on Vancouver’s Cypress Mountain, according to the David Suzuki Foundation. ” “(CBC)The David Suzuki Foundation says global warming and climate change are in part responsible for what’s happening to a key Olympic venue.”

The Vancouver Province April 14, 2011
Snowfall records at B.C ski resorts are being credited to a winter of consistenty cold conditions. Mount Washington, on Vancouver Island is celebrating a record-setting snowfall by extending the ski and snowboard season into the Easter weekend. Mount Washington spokesman Brent Curtain said on Thursday the total snowfall for the resort is now 1,840 cm. The previous record dates back to 1998-99 in which the resort had 1,835 cm of snowfall. Early in the season, Mount Washington had the unusual predicament for a ski resort — they had too much snow. The six metres of snow buried cars and turned the parking areas of the resort into chaos.

No wonder us Canadians believe so strongly in climate change. It changes drastically every year.
Speaking of David Suzuki, he’s not qualified in the field of climate science – he’s a geneticist, yet here in Canada his pronouncements on AGW and climate change are accepted uncritically by the media because he’s a leftist TV personality.
I ran across this recently:
“in the introduction to his 20-year-old doomsday book, It’s A Matter of Survival, Suzuki declares:
…there are too many of us; we consume too much; we pollute too much…”
http://nofrakkingconsensus.com/2010/10/13/david-suzukis-five-kids/
I wonder if anyone in the mainstream media ever asked him why, if he truly believes this, he has fathered five children. For a scientist he isn’t very consistent, (except in his hypocrisy.)
The CBC says the Canadians are better educated…..I think we are just dumber and more gullible than our southern friends.
Of course Canadians believe in Global warming.
12,000 or so years ago the whole place (almost) was covered in ice. If not for the warming since then there wouldn’t be any Canadians.
As for opinions on the current scenario, since both major networks there are relentless AGW propagandists, BBC style, that’s just ‘manufactured consent.’
Bottom line, in the current Canadian election the pro-AGW (tax) parties aren’t even mentioning it because it would be the kiss of their political death. That’s the only real indication of their thinking, and it definitely does not support whatever poll says otherwise.
