The US Department of the Interior says climate change will cut water flow in the west of the country causing water shortage for millions in the region.
According to a report released by the department on Monday, global warming will reduce water levels in several of the American West’s largest river basins by up to 20% this century, the state-funded BBC reported.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Talk about being out of touch!
Why out of touch? Water shortages have plagued the west over many years. If you are unconvinced, wait until the end of the century and then we’ll talk.
Population growth have affected water supplies in the west since humans started cultivating the land and building settlements.
Yes Dan you are correct and that statement is verified by thousands of years of records about the water conditions in the west. Increased population decreases the amount of water per person. Simple math!
Long term weather patterns may increase or decrease the amount of total water available but the amount available per person will continue to decline because of population growth and environmental restrictions that have been enacted to save endangered sub species.
If humans have been using over 100% of available water flow for years even during above average conditions eventually the available water will run out.

Nasa confirm with regard to the Colorado River Basin that the current drought is not unusual and is due to natural factors.
A century of river flow records combined with an additional four to five centuries of tree-ring data show that the drought of the late 1990s and early 2000s was not unusual; longer and more severe droughts are a regular part of the climate variability in that part of the continent
They also state that the drought has eased in the last 6 years when precipitation has been almost back to normal. The current snowpack which is 21% above normal and growing larger as it is still too cold to melt will certainly be beneficial to water levels.
Any speculation about “climate change” is just that – pure speculation.

Jeez, such complex sciency stuff. A desert…….”A desert is a landscape or region that receives an extremely low amount of precipitation, less than enough to support growth of most plants.” So, people move there and breed like rabbits and wonder where the water went……..
Global warming will reduce water levels? Horse hockey. No one can definitively state that. Global warming, so capable to do so many simultaneously contradictory things. Well, I should just state wetdry and leave it at that, but we’ve some new people here recently, so I feel the need to be more explanatory. Is that the same global warming that causes more rain and floods, too? Or is there a different breed of global warming that we’re not aware of?
They said this past winter was caused by global warming putting more moisture in the air….
…problem solved
Exactly, but probably bad moisture.
I do not have a link available, but I recall a news article on the scientific finding that the 20th century was the wettest ever recorded in the Colorado river basin. It is usually a lot more drier than we’ve witnessed.
Dan,
Obama is out of touch talking about drought when the problem the last few years has been too much moisture. It’s like talking about the heat when it’s -20 outside.
Admittedly there is a long term problem with too many people given the water supply. It should be addressed in that fashion, not in the context of global warming, which at this time does not appear to be the real issue.
I vote we throw up a few more dams where necessary, and buffer the resource that way. Re-purify and re-use a couple times. Plenty of water. Obummer approaches the problem of a shortage as tho he has no options. If he had done that with his Birth
Certificate, he wouldn’t be President right now.
“Obama is out of touch”
What was your first clue……………………………… 😉
“suyts says: Exactly, but probably bad moisture.”
It comes from the melting of rotten ice.
Water to California’s central valley has been turned off by so-called environmentalists and the federal gov.. Why is central California, the natural breadbasket of the nation, now leading in starvation, food stamp dependency, filth, and poverty? Because of hate. The Senate was begged to turn the water back on and they refused (excuse being the Delta smelt).

(Nevertheless, those who seek to remove automobiles from California hope for even tighter water restrictions.

“Those who prefer high-density urban growth, rather than low-density suburbs, believe that restricting water supplies will help their cause. They don’t, in other words, want Californians to have an abundant water supply for both agricultural and non-farm uses.”…
