Tell him it is a “sideshow” and that you “have better things to do.” Tell him that the legal requirements for your job aren’t important, and then refuse to show it to him for three years.
Also, cite the President of the US as your precedent.

Love it!!
I needed my birth certificate recently to replace a lost driver’s license. I don’t know if I had ever seen mine let alone had one. I was dreading the process, but it took me all of five days to get mine from DC, which has quite a reputation for bureaucratic bumbling. Not three years!
Why would an employer ask for a birth certificate, it’s not necessary for an I-9?
It is federal law that you have to provide 2 proofs of citizenship (passport/birth certificate/SS card)
No it isn’t, what is required is given below (note that it is illegal for an employer to specify which of the forms they will accept from an employee):
http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf
A driver’s license and SS card will do just fine.
List C (Documents that establish employment eligibility only)
Social Security account number card without employment restrictions *Original or certified copy of a birth certificate with an official seal issued by a state or local government agency* Certification of Birth Abroad US Citizen ID Card Native American tribal document Form I-94 authorizing employment with this employer (for aliens authorized to work only for a specific employer)
Phil., It may be illegal – but I got a question – want a job? The job I got in 03 I had my passport, but they made me go get my SS Card (I had lost it when I was 16). I wanted the job so I went and got a new one.
I was never asked for a birth certificate when I was hired. Besides, Obama did provide one before. It merely was the short form which is legally recognized as the official birth certificate under the laws of the state of Hawaii.
At any defense contractor it’s absolutely required. ….uh, because you might have access to information that would threaten national security.
For roles that require Secret clearance, you must pass an extensive background check. This can include interviews with former neighbors and childhood friends.
Now, let me see…. might the Commander in Chief have access to information of vital interest to national security?

Ya Phil., you really got the point! It’s such a challenge to have you around.
I’m bemused by the people that insist on saying that people aren’t required by employers or other institutions to provide their birth cert for various reasons. If birth certs. are not necessary why even have birth certs.
Within the last several years I’ve had to provide my birth cert to USCIS, A forieign consulate, Social Security Administration, and a couple more that I can’t remember.
If I had not presented my birth cert whatever transaction I was working toward would not have proceeded, and no amount of talking would have made one little bit of difference.
Schools require a birth certificate for enrollment. I had to do that last week.
OK change the subject, but as shown a Birth certificate is not required for an I-9 and in fact can not be asked for by the employer.
It has been almost a week since a governmental agency insisted that I deliver a birth certificate.
Don’t cloud the issue for Phil.with the facts.

So you can copy from the document I sent you, whoopdedoo!
As I correctly pointed out it is not federal law that you have to provide 2 proofs of citizenship (passport/birth certificate/SS card)!
A passport on its own is enough.
Phil, it should be a federal law, I bet there would be alot of job openings? I was born on a US airforce base in England, I have my original COB and what I consider my Long form BC “Child born abroad of American Parent” I needed those and my SSN when I joined the USMC. I also needed all this plus my old passport when I applied for a new passport last year, it took 2 weeks
Obama’s more important thing to do was to appear on Oprah.
The audience of Oprah was likely his priority, for votes.
Funny dishrag we have for president….
He times his birth announcement at the same time the Feds are saying we’re in the tank…..
I will tell him I have a list of more important things to do. I will tell him what the list is in a condescending tone. Then I will not do anything on the list but instead busy myself with basketball, tv appearances , and vacations. I will think and act like when my employee review comes I will pass it and continue working for him.
And, most importantly, I will feel I am the best thing that has ever happened to him. I will deeply feel he never thinks what I do has anything wrong with it since I am working for him the way all of his employees should have worked for him from the beginning. And if he does think what I am doing is wrong I will ignore him completely and mock him for thinking that way. Why? Because he’s just a hick that only thinks about his religion, and his guns—poor, little guy. He only deserves to have me pass by him and think of him as a lesser human than myself, a necessary evil for achieving MY plans.
My superior mind lets me know that the way previous employees have worked for him, especially those who were there at the beginning and built the company into the most successful and happy company in the world, are what is standing in the way of his company fundamentally transforming into what I think is better. Those company founders need to get out of my way! They didn’t really earn what they got in life. They took it in unfair ways from more deserving people. I will set that all right and devise a system that requires permanent, weekly, lifetime payment from the company employees paychecks to those who were treated so poorly.
Any questions? Don’t worry, I really don’t care about your questions. I have to catch a flight. I won a transparency award!

As usual no relevant fact was provided, the original comment was regarding one’s employer requiring a birth certificate. What government agencies do isn’t germane.
The issue is that it took three years for Obama to deliver a digitally altered document which he says is birth certificate.
