President Barack Obama’s former top aide on energy and climate change is heading to the Center for American Progress.
Carol Browner, who was director of the White House Office of Energy and Climate Change Policy, has joined the Center as a “Distinguished Senior Fellow,” the group said Wednesday.
“Carol Browner is an extraordinary public servant and CAP will benefit tremendously from her vision and experience,” said John Podesta, the center’s president. “She understands the intersections of how policy interacts with politics and how government helps shape strong markets for investment and innovation. Having that sense of integration is key to understanding how to improve the lives of the American people, which is central to the mission of CAP.”
As Mr. Obama’s “energy czar” from 2009 until earlier this year, Ms. Browner helped broker a historic agreement in 2009, in which the auto industry and California patched up their differences and agreed to accept tougher fuel economy standards as well as federal standards governing automobile greenhouse-gas emissions. Her effort to persuade the U.S. Senate to pass legislation limiting industrial emissions of such gases didn’t go as well.
and she will be a very expensive lobbyist for them……
Here are Obama’s thoughts on the debt limit in 2006, when he voted against increasing the ceiling:
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.
