It’s interesting that event though the predictions were pretty incredible, they were not calling it certain doom. They just look at like change. We will farm in areas that are now either too cold or too dry. Never called it the greatest challange facing man kind, or a death spiral.

  2. Tony Duncan says:

    Steve,

Interesting that 100 years ago he was predicting something not far off from what most scientists predict with his parameters. CO2 at 700-850 PPM for 500-700 years.

    • Yea, you would think they might have learned something over the last century.

      • Tony Duncan says:

        Steve,

they MIGHT learn something if you would publish all your proofs. I get the feeling that very few climate scientists follow your blog.

      • suyts says:

Tony, Steve’s blog has been visited by several phd’s since it started. Also, its been referenced by several other climate blogs,…… they’re reading it. They might not like it, but they’re reading.

      Tony,

Why hasn’t atmospheric CO2 gone to the levels you reference when the emissions have far exceeded what Arrhenius was basing his predictions on?

      • Tony Duncan says:

        Glacierman,

glad you are asking an expert. My deeply considered answer after many years of studying all aspects of climate science and 3 ph.d’s in related fields….. Maybe he did not have all the information necessary to understand the key elements of the carbon cycle.

    • Latitude says:

Tony, I think you just made the case that climate science has not progressed in 100 years…………..

      • glacierman says:

They must fine tune the message. Maybe they need a new PR firm to run Real Climate, yea that will surely advance things.

  3. Andy Weiss says:

So the greenhouse effect has been known about for some time. Why weren’t people going crazy about it until the 1980’s? Their big chance to force it down our throats was the 1930’s, when it was truly hot at times. But no one thought about it then.

    • glacierman says:

I wonder if there are any other 100 year old theories that can be used to scare people into committing economic suicide?
