Andy, you seem to live under the impression that either your or the average living standard on Earth is dropping; can’t tell which. Now if it’s yours, then i wish you more success in the future, but if you have the impression that living standards on the planet are dropping, then maybe you could point us to a source for such an assumption?

I don’t know where you live, but in the good, old USA, we are just getting over a horrible recession and the recovery has been tepid at best.
I’m personally doing OK, but an awful lot of people out there are hurting, have lost homes, good jobs, have huge debt, have nothing to retire on, etc. That is not very scientific, but the consensus is that these have not been the best of times.
With various governments trying to shore up their debt, cutting wages and laying off people, it does not seem that it will get much better anytime soon.
Well, i live in Germany. By German standards, i’m doing fine.
Ok, so you basically mean the impacts of the financial crisis which also affect the Euro zone periphery. So we have a part of Europe and a part of the US population that’s suffering, i admit that. But in my opinion, this is more than offset by progress in places like the BRIC countries and sub-Saharan Africa.

You are right. We always look at life from our own lens. Maybe the third world is doing better, which is more important for world life span than our relatively small problems.
