The White House claimed that Osama was firing an AK-47 at American troops in his bedroom. Later they admitted that it was due to the “fog of war” they just made the story up.
I discussed this last year, when that guy on Long Island defended his house against a gang using an AK-47. No one who is experienced at firing their rifle is going to fire it in a house full of their own children. Rifle bullets slice through walls – like butter. They can kill people in several neighboring rooms and houses.
Home defense against intruders calls for a 12 gauge shotgun and a pistol, not a rifle.
What makes you think Osama cared who he killed, or if rifle bullets could go through the walls of that particular compound?
He didn’t fire it, and the house was full of his kids.
If he did fire, it would be to hit the enemy, with only passing, if any, thought of those behind the enemy. Collateral damage is quite common, guys.
Desperate people do desperate things, duh! Why do observers like to apply reasoned, logical thinking to a situation that effectively had a life of its own as it developed.
Talking heads and critics are loving to point all of the things the attack team should have done to be some level of ridiculously thorough. With such considerations, most missions would never be even tried.
The stupidest critics think we should have captured bin Laden. A mastermind is always packing and dangerous as their mind is their weapon. Keeping him alive would have been too dangerous and also given him a forum which he did not deserve, as he had no reasonable gripes with the world that might have any merit. The only way to handle an evil matermind is to take away his weapon. We did.
The police should just kill everybody they are trying to arrest, because there is always the danger that they could be shot.
