According to a new report, 47 percent of Detroiters are ”functionally illiterate.” The alarming new statistics were released by the Detroit Regional Workforce Fund on Wednesday.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Yes, a prime example of the result of left-wing domination for decades. Imagine where they would be if the rest of Wayne County and the state didn’t provide a ton of money to the city.
Republicans attract the very rich and bigots of various stripes. Also the self righteous, judgemental hypocrites of the world.
Democrats attract the self proclaimed victims and losers of the world, looking for handouts and preferential treatment.
Also, of course, the environmental extremists along with aging hippies and their brainwashed offspring.
Most people don’t fit into either of these categories, so when they vote, they have to hold their noses and try to differentiate between the lesser of two evils.
Andy, I’ve seen more bigots on the left………..
The notion that the rich and GOP are synonymous is largely propaganda from the left. Many on Wall St are very liberal. A great many uber wealthy are elitist liberals.
The real enemy here is consolidation of power- financial and/or political. The left is intensely working thru the media and academia to achieve totalitarian power. They seek to co-opt every single constituent with handouts. This is why Paul Ryan notes with alarm the extemely large share of Americans now dependent on the Federal Government for all or part of their income.
Conservatives have made many mistakes, among them, buying into some of the themes of the left (earmarks), but true conservatives understand that freedom depends on the division of power among the electorate; minimum government intrusion, the right to self determination, and the right to private property.
America has a VERY progessive tax structure for regular income. Roughly half pay nothing, and some are paid monies they never contributed, in part due to the tax cuts in 2000 and 2003, for which “W” was villified for enriching the wealthy. These cuts actually skewed the table more progessively. The top 1% now pay 38% of all taxes, and the top 25% pay 86% of all taxes.

Ironically, the position of the right- that monies earned should be left to the individual- has contributed to the creation of an uber wealthy elitist left who seek now to use that wealth to take total control. Perhaps the reason for their wealth is their propensity for acquiring power.
Nicely put.
The real difference between the parties is the appreciation of people either 1) being a part of a class, or stereotype, or 2) recognizing people as possessing individual worth and individual responsibility. That’s the difference between Communism, or Statism, and Capitalism, also.
That’s how the black victims of the Democrat Party have been relegated to ghettos. Keeps the vote in place. Dems are always against things that would enable them to lift themselves out of poverty, like vouchers. Also why they are rabidly pro-abortion. A cynical, godless lot. The tip-off to their souls? Look how much they give to charities!
But that is just the bulk of them, not all. Some are genuine bleeding hearts, except they “know not what they do” to quote Jesus.
Liberals are not “rabidly pro-abortion”. No one likes abortion or gains from it. It is an issue of what restraints should be placed on a woman’s right to have an abortion if they want or need to have it. Would it be wise to go back to the era of back alley coat hanger abortions or making a woman go to Canada or Mexico to have it? Is it wise to have the government involved in a very personal matter? Should we have laws outlawing birth control pills or morning after pills? How far do you want to go?
Conservatives supposedly want less government intrusion. Now they want laws where the government intrudes in a very painful, private decision. It should be left to the woman and her doctor.
The wealthiest districts in the country overwhelmingly vote Democrat. Many more very wealthy dems….including all of Hollywood. The idea of Republicans being rich is a myth. It’s probably derived from the fact they are pro-business capitalists.
Conservatives would like to change the abortion business model of pro-death. Most would like to see waiting periods and required counseling and total disclosure of the effects.
The over $200,000 tend to go Republican. Those with postgraduate degrees tend to go for Democrats.

Dan that’s just silly……..
Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Larry Ellison, Christy Walton, Soros, Kerry and on and on..
As far as education goes, then why do the democrats romance minorities and illegals?
So your personal anecdotal evidence is more complete than an actual survey where they attempted to actually, you know, count people? Do you know what counting is? Read up on it. Really. Statistics isn’t just silly.
Dan, I used Google and Bing…..
Are you 12?
That’s like so cool, it like erases me, like you know……….
If you used search engines, you hid that rather well. If you uncovered different studies, you also hid that rather well. I suspect you use muffled oars too.
it was a rhetorical question…
..you really didn’t have to give your age
Dan, did you look at the results? You are correct, “Statistics isn’t just silly.”
Tell me, what’s wrong with this picture?
VOTE BY EDUCATION
TOTAL Democrat Republican
No High School (3%) 64% 35%
H.S. Graduate (21%) 55% 44%
Some College (31%) 51% 47%
College Graduate (27%) 49% 49%
Postgraduate (18%) 58% 41%
The trends seem to mirror the Bush/Kerry voting in 2004

LOL Dan doesn’t get it………….
Dan, the numbers stated aren’t reflective of Repub/Dems, they are reflective of the electorate mood of 2006. Many of the same people that voted as Dems in 2006 voted as Repubs in 2010. (witness election results) Looking at the numbers above, Dems should win every national election.
They don’t.
Let’s talk about numbers.
Ok, ……… there are no categories in which Repubs are the majority. …………… Really? None? How did they win the House? Is that poll reflective of reality?……..Nope.
Thanks for playing the numbers game.
Interesting. So if we look at numbers from a given election, of course we are seeing the national mood at that time. Fair enough. What other data would you look at?
Is it necessary to “look at data” in this regard?
How about age?
If you have references that you prefer, please share.
Republicans might interpret this to mean that you need some education, but to become over educated is to lose track of reality.
Democrats might interpret this to mean that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Not to loose track of reality, but to believe you have climbed high enough into your ivory tower that you have the moral authority to tell everyone how to live their lives.
And that amounts to the about the same voting patterns as the uneducated. One group wants to be taken care of, the other thinks they are the smart ones who know how to take care of everyone.
LBJ’s Great Society.
Just a couple other points on the abortion arguement, without trying to step on anyone’s toes because people are rightfully passionate about it.
Devout Christians believe that the unborn are people with souls. If a fetus is aborted , don’t they get a free ticket to Heaven since they are not capable of sin? If Heaven is a “better place” as claimed, how are the unborn being harmed?
If anyone is gong to Hell, it’s the woman and the doctor. But if they are atheists, they are not going to be concerned about that. It should thus be their choice and not anyone else’s business whether they are willing to take that risk.
Would you want to enter the world with a mother who didn’t want you and might even hate you? Heaven sounds like a far better option.
