Freedom of information laws are being misused to harass scientists and should be re-examined by the government, according to the president of the Royal Society.
Nobel laureate Sir Paul Nurse told the Guardian that some climate scientists were being targeted by organised campaigns of requests for data and other research materials, aimed at intimidating them and slowing down research. He said the behaviour was turning freedom of information laws into a way to intimidate some scientists.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Oh give me a break, Nurse. You are rolling in establishment blandishments and lucre. Stop bleating about those who pay for your “research” actually asking to see it.
If we’re evil oil stooges, how come I don’t get a discount on my gas?
Where are our oil checks? Times are hard ya know.
He looks hot and flushed. It must be caused by global warming. 🙂
Nurse doesn’t care about the real bullying by carrot and stick.
Of course they have been bullied but bullied by the AGW establishment for years. Any scientist who doesn’t toe the line find it extremely difficult to get their research published (due to various reasons including corrupt peer reviewing, simple refusal, the journals being bullied by the AGW establishment) , get to the conferences without abuse etc. That’s the stick. The carrot is generous grants by Climate departments which presuppose AGW support- far above standard science grants. Of course scientists believe in AGW, to do anything else would carry great risks retribution. Even if there is no retribution, if you do research that you don’t initially believe in, the heavy dose propaganda will change your mind. They are only human.
Note all surveys say believe in, a very embarrassing thing to say as a scientist. They could ask do you believe in God or Santa Claus. Belief is a ordinary man of the street phenomen- I don’t care what scientists believe as ordinary citizen as long as they don’t let affect their scientific analysis. It what a scientist can prove that matter.
Anyone ask they do they have they seen proof of a very well defined hyothesis from AGW theory and where is it.
agreed……….
Remember when scientists were proud of their work….
Mr. Nurse, “tough dirty pillows”! Scientists will just have to adjust and understand it’s the price of not being North Korea. If public money is used in the research, citizen review should trump peer review. If a scientist or university does not want to be held accountable to citizens for research funded by the public, they can always refrain from accepting public funding.
Good Night Nurse
Does this guy work on transparency for the Obama administration too?
The President of the Royal Society Wants Scientists To Abandon The Scientific Method

You would think an honest scientist would welcome the scutiny. Isn’t that what science is suppposed to be all about (scutiny)? It’s time to cut out this holier than thou routine.
It’s public data about the weather and hypotheses about how it works, not nuclear secrets.
