Seattle Pi Reports That I Have An Obscenely Large Income

Earth to Robert. I don’t receive any compensation of any form for doing this, other than the satisfaction of watching lunatics like you rant.

Robert A. Brown

Science Overkill
I’ve summarized how the politics of Global Warming has evolved. Now I’m wondering whether the basic attack on science has become a bigger problem. The forces behind the discrediting of climate science, who were motivated by fear of losing their obscenely large incomes, might now be a little worried over their success, which spilled over to science in general. The first eight years of this century in the USA were a steady march back to the dark ages of science, particularly in earth sciences and satellites, where major projects were discontinued or accidentally destroyed.

Conservative forces used the opportunity to employ the techniques and money to attack the sciences where they are fundamentally antithetical to faith-based explanations. The merchants of doubt attacked biology from the dangers of smoking to stem-cell research to evolution; physics from big-bang to anti-miracle skepticism to alternate energies; and economics from laissez-faire “freedom” to population control to establishment of the western world’s largest class division based on the super-rich oligarchy and the rest of us.

The huge input of political money demonstrated that democracy doesn’t work (the most money wins, and has even won the supreme court); that lack of scientific ‘certainty’ justifies ignoring the science (Copenhagen climate change solutions were no-starters); that stolen e-mails can be distorted to insinuate myopic hysteria (as at least three scientific organizational investigations have concluded); and new scientific solutions for energy and conservation are unproven, and therefore not worth the investment.

It is clear that the big oil money perturbation has not done the same destruction to Europe and Asia, and they may take up the mantle.

Don’t take this personally, but i don’t think he was referring to you.

  2. Russell C says:

It’s point #2 of AGW believers’ mantra, and must be repeated ever louder to drown out dissent. We have settled science, corrupt skeptics, and an ineffective media that allows skeptics to be heard way too often, thus confusing an ignorant public. Just keep repeating it, and that will fix everything.

Or not, if more of the public discovers that none of the mantra points have been true, as I pointed out in my latest article at American Thinker, “Warmist Mantra Wearing Out” http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/05/warmist_mantra_wearing_out.html

I always think that people who try to draw too many conclusions about CAGW attitude from the smoking issue haven’t understood much about AGW at all. One is a nonessential (and rather unpleasant) luxury, the other is life as we know it. If there is any psychiatric element to AGW opinion it must lie with those who DON’T question the science.

Why does there need to be subversive forces pitting their wits against warmists when anyone in their right mind should be saying ‘hang on, this is a huge issue, shouldn’t we be absolutely sure before we ditch our comfy lifestyles and embrace extreme austerity?’ And why can’t those people who venture finance for debating that question be doing so for any reason other than genuine opinion?

While I don’t agree with CAGW supporters I can at least see that many of them are coming from a position of genuine fear and/or a desire to make society ‘better’, why can’t they accept that others might not share their position?

  4. PhilJourdan says:

The nature of a snake is to bite at your ankles. The nature of a tiger is to eat you. And the nature of a progressive is to lie about you accusing you of his sins so as to justify those sins to himself.

The only obscenely large money amounts in Climate Science are the ones that are turning it into a religion to enslave man. The skeptics are merely trying to make sure the truth is available to any not already brainwashed.

  5. Andy Weiss says:

There is obviously more professional risk for skeptics. There is little risk taken by conforming with the crowd.

    • Jimbo says:

Exactly good sir! Warmist scientists can also lie, manipulate and distort without worrying about investigative journalists, sceptical scientists or funding problems. The scientific sceptic has funding problems but keeps at it because the facts matter more. Take the example of Dr. Tim Ball who has to appeal for funding for his pending libel case against Michael Mann. Where is BIG oil?

“The huge input of political money demonstrated that democracy doesn’t work (the most money wins, and has even won the supreme court”

If that was true, we would have had cap and trade long ago. All the money in the world won’t convince everyone that their world is heating out of control when all they have to do is look outside and pay just a little attention. Maybe sometimes the truth wins.

  7. GregO says:

I’m tired of conservatives constantly being painted as anti-science. I am a lifelong Republican and was conservative before it was cool. I am also an engineer, own an engineering company, and teach engineering. I am pro-science; pro-scientific method; pro-rational.

However, I am anti-foolishness. CAGW is the living, breathing embodiment of human foolishness.
