Texas drought has farmers on the ropes

The wind in West Texas is famously powerful and incessant. But this year, more big blows than anyone can remember have roared through, stripping away precious topsoil and carrying off another season of hope for farmers and ranchers.
Where does that claim come from? Precipitation records for West Texas show that the 1950s was considerably drier than the 1930s or the present.
Why bother with details such as historical facts when you can sound much scarier if you bother with facts?
