Thick Ice Area Has Nearly Doubled Since 2008

Arctic rent seekers experts tell us that the ice is melting “faster than predicted.” Interesting conclusion, given that US Navy PIPS2 data shows that since 2008 the area of 2.5+ metre ice has nearly doubled and now covers almost the entire Arctic Basin.

NSIDC also shows that the area of multi-year ice has substantially increased since 2008.

  1. Daniel Packman says:

Looks like a general decline over 25+ years.

    • No kidding. 20,000 years ago the ice was a mile thick in Chicago.

    • suyts says:

Perhaps Daniel, but doesn’t this fly in the face of the “death spiral” posit?

Tell me, does an increase of thick ice over a 3 year span indicate a “death spiral”? <——– Man, I wish there was audio with that!

      • Daniel Packman says:

The couple of year increase comes after an unusually step decline. Even with the increase, the current level is consistent with a 20+ year linear decline. Wait a couple more years before you come to any conclusions.

    • Jimbo says:

“Looks like a general decline over 25+ years.”

If you take the long term view then this might be just a blip. Let’s wait and see shall we? šŸ˜‰

    • Paul in Sweden says:

This current periodic decline in Arctic sea ice comes after the historic peak Arctic sea ice extent in the 70s. Yes, wait a few years.

  2. Mike Davis says:

    Daniel:
About 150 should do the trick. Looking at historic accounts of ice conditions in the Arctic region over the last 150 years the current conditions are within the range of natural variation and a total loss of ice during the late Summer and early Fall would also be within the conditions experienced during the last 5,000 years.
People at this site are not buying your Chicken Little routine! The current level is also consistent with many periods in the past when the ice extent was less and went on to increase.

I look forward to the day when people like you are calling for military action to limit Russian expansion into an melting Arctic that isn’t really melting..that will be comedy of a Stalinist scale.

People might forget for a while their AGW religion, and try smelling the roses. In this area of Canada, and it could be said for all or most of Canada, the smell is not available. We are suffering, after a later and later arrival of warm spring conditions every year for the last several, the coldest, most miserable springtime conditions I have seen in the eighteen years since I arrived here. To date, we have had not one warm spring day and night. Hummingbirds, usually arriving by April 15, are non existent. Hummigbirds thrive on warmth. Leaves are normally visible on the aspens and poplars by April 30-this year-not yet a sign. The temperature early this morning was 2 degrees celsius and the fourteen day forecast continues to forecast temps much below normal. Unless there is a major change soon, our spring planting will be much delayed. In case the AGW religionists need a wake up call, seeds still do not germinate in cold soil conditions, regardless of their theoretical rubbish 100 year forecasts.

The AGW faithifiers took a naturally occurring warming trend since the seventies, when pseudo scientists and alarmist media/press were predicting an ice age, and used this trend to create the most monstrously disseminated fraud the world has ever seen-that the natural life supporting substance, CO2, is pollution. They are still at it, in their attempt to use the recent warming cycle as the means by which to re-create a new form of Stalinism, whereby the state is to use its overwhelming power to enforce its decrees on every activity of the common man, while the state and its beetles enjoy the benefits of the dictatorship of the AGW religion.
