Is Global Warming Unstoppable?

Nov. 22, 2009 – In a provocative new study, a University of Utah scientist argues that rising carbon dioxide emissions – the major cause of global warming – cannot be stabilized unless the world’s economy collapses or society builds the equivalent of one new nuclear power plant each day.

The Only Thing That Will Stop Global Warming Is A Massive Economic Downturn

A new report from the University of Michigan starts off its press release with a not so optimistic phrase: “It’s a message no one wants to hear.”

Just what message is this?

That it would take an extreme economic downturn to slow the effects of global warming.

The research conducted by José Tapia Granados and Edward Ionides of U-M and Óscar Carpintero of the University of Valladolid in Spain is considered the first to assess fluctuations in carbon dioxide based on measurable levels, instead of less accurate carbon emission estimates.

    Backward thinking again!

  3. John B., M.D. says:

Well, they got their “extreme economic downturn” in Spain. Did it help?

  4. klem says:

Its amazing to me that U of Michigan, located in the automobile capital of the universe, would publish such a thing. It is utter BS.

An economic downturn would reduce economic activity, it would have no affect on the climate. To believe such a thing is bizarre fantasy. Actually belief like that makes sense when you understand that climate alarmism is a faith, a quasi-religion. Where CO2 is the devil and carbon emissions are the devils work, and fear of climate disaster is really fear of the apocolypse.

    Climate alarmism is climate faith.

Wouldn’t a severe economic downturn result in a culling of useless parasitic rent-seeking pseudoscientists?

In that case, I’m all for it.

    • DirkH says:

I’d like to clarify that this is not a death threat, as I don’t care about the exact method by which they are culled.

  6. Andy DC says:

The stock market is down 160 points today. According to Dr. Hayhoe, that translates to .000002 degrees of global cooling.

    • dmmcmah says:

Indeed – the 2008 crash did correlate with a dramatic temperature drop! The current flat temperatures are right in line with the Obama unemployment rate.

  7. Shooter says:

CO2 is a product of temp change, not a cause. Also, there isn’t any convincing evidence that CO2 directly drives temperature. History tells us that.

    • Jimmy says:

My uncle was the head of Physics at a major university and a prominent researcher for laser technology and he says the exact same thing as Shooter does concerning CO2 as a product and not a cause. Man made global warming is BS according to him. Who do you believe, an established scientist or IPCC and Al Gore?
