Consensus Says Two Metres Of Sea Level Rise

The American polar expert Robert Correll, among the key contributors to the UN International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report issued in February, described the acceleration as “massive”.

Estimates of the likely rise in sea levels this century vary, and the IPCC published a conservative range of between 20cm-60cm. But those estimates are now heavily disputed, with many scientists insisting that new data collected since the IPCC report suggested a rise closer to two metres. Professor Correll said there was now a “consensus” that a significant acceleration in the loss of ice mass has occurred since the last report.

Massive Greenland meltdown? Not so fast, say scientists

January 12, 2009

a team led by Faezeh Nick of Durham University in Britain found that neither of these scenarios matched the data.

“They simply don’t fit what we have observed,” said colleague and co-author Andreas Vieli in an interview.

How many is in a “many scientists“? What are their names? Why are they hiding behind Robert Correll’s skirts? If their warnings mean so much they should be proud, out front world savers, not shy, retiring, anonymous, hiding behind the hedges.

Since they are hiding behind the hedges, where is the description of the hedge?

The article about Robert Correll’s apocalyptic predictions is from 2007.

After failing to make big bucks on the prediction circuit, he concentrated his research on raindeer farts and in 2010 he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine by the Norges veterinærhøgskole (Norwegian School of Veterinarian Science).

That would be something called weasel words. Examples: Some scientists, experts, leading scientists, the world’s scientists, studies show, studies say, study finds, etc. When it comes down to it, those “many scientists” are often just one and those “studies” are often just a few.

It’s the same thing as those famous ‘They’ guys, except they have fancy titles and degrees and such. “Well, you know…that’s what they say.”

    Germany Denmark

    1849 – 2010 + 1,6 mm/year
    but
    1990 – 2010 – 1,45 mm/year

so last 20 years no Sea Level rise at all.

In 2008 Robert Correll still tried to break the prediction market.

Our fight is hopeless. They want to use God.

‘Greenpeace head Kumi Naidoo, remains optimistic. In an interview, he explains his new vision for a sustainable world — and how the pope can help.’

    • Robertvdl says:

Naidoo: We could do this with the help of religion. Ideally, the Pope should ask the people: Do you really think God would bury oil and coal for extraction as the only option to produce energy?

      • DirkH says:

Ask yourself this: Are the Greens the useful idiots of the catholic church or is the catholic church the useful idiot of the Greens?

    Quotes, A War Against Humanity:
“The planet is about to break out with fever, indeed it may already have, and we [humans] are the disease. We should be at war with ourselves and our lifestyles.” –Thomas Lovejoy, Smithsonian Institution
“The only real good technology is no technology at all. ” -John Shuttleworth, Mother Earth News
“An ecocatastrophe is taking place on earth…..discipline, prohibition, enforcement and oppression are the only solution. [And those most responsible should] be sent to the mountains for re-education in eco-gulags… The sole glimmer of hope lies in a centralised government and the tireless control of citizens.” — Pentti Linkila, Finnish Ecologist
“It is a campaign not for abundance but for austerity. It is a campaign not for more freedom but for less. Strangest of all, it is a campaign not just against other people, but against ourselves.” — George Monbiot, British Ecoloon

“Entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.” – Neol Brown (1989), ex UN Environment Program Director

    • papiertigre says:

I’m sure you meant Noel Brown, former scientific adviser to Planktos’ “Voyage of Recovery” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18acL_kKTJs.

That was the company which planned to salt the ocean with iron ore back in 2007, to fertilize phytoplankton which would then suck up x amount of co2, which Planktos would reimburse in carbon credits for their trouble.

      Planktos dead in the water
Company aiming for ocean fertilization says funds have run dry.
The California-based company Planktos has indefinitely postponed its ocean-fertilization project, which the firm claimed would help counter the rise in greenhouse gases.

The bad news for the company, which was unable to raise required funds, is welcome news for many in the scientific community who had been calling… .

  7. A few things to ponder –

we’re about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way there according to climate models for the effects of a doubling of CO2.

The AGW theory states that the warming from the heat trapping properties of CO2 take effect in the atmosphere immediately. (Obviously ocean temperatures will take much longer to equalize.)

So given the above, why isn’t there the acceleration we were promised? Is there any explanation for why, given the lengthy time period already (1950-2012), we’re still not seeing it?
