   To be fair, gas did reach around $4 during the Bush Administration as well.

     And quickly fell back. The cause of the apex under Bush was the storms. The cause of the high plateaux under Obama is his policies.

     And the amusing thing is to watch the Obamabots come out and try to deny it is Obama’s policies doing it! Of all his promises, this is the only one he has kept. High gas prices.

     Gasoline prices then dropped quickly after Bush opened areas to offshore drilling. No production resulted since it was quickly shut down by Obama, but it did send a positive message to the market and speculation-fueled price volatility decreased.

     More domestic drilling won’t lower fuel prices, but it will reduce price volatility, as well as increase royalty revenue (12-18% per barrel) and tax revenue (more domestic oil jobs —> more Federal income, FICA, Medicare, and state sales tax revenue).
