- 1936 was the hottest July on record in the US.
- 1936 was the hottest summer on record in the US
- The summers of 1930-1939 averaged the hottest of any decade since the start of the database in 1895.
Even with all the cheating, bumping post 2000 temperature upwards by more than half a degree, and knocking a tenth of a degree off the 1930s – the 1930s still stands out as the hottest summers.
Next time James Hansen claims that the recent warm spring is proof of global warming, please remind him that he has no idea what he is talking about, and is hurting lot of people with his incompetence.
Also, 1934 was the most widespread drought and worst corn crop reduction (percentage of average) in US history. 1935, worst hurricane (intensity), 1938 worst hurricane in northeast US. 1936 and 1937, probaby two worst consecutive years of spring flooding in NE and Midwest US.
1931, worst flooding (deaths) anywhere in world (China). 1934, coldest February in NE US (all time record lows for NYC and Boston), 1936, coldest winter in northern Plains. 1933, seperate major hurricanes hitting Texas and Florida a day apart. 1936 tornado in Mississippi kills 200+, next day tornado in Georgia kills 200+.
To put icing on the cake, we had Orson Wells’ “War of the Worlds” in 1938 and the beginning of WWII in 1939.
