Accurate Information Spells Bad News For Junk Science

The UnChristian AntiScience Monitor reports :

Global warming spells bad news for emperor penguins, study finds

Researchers at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution have found that melting sea ice could lead to dramatic declines in populations of emperor penguins.

Had anyone involved with the newspaper or the study actually done any research, they would have know that sea ice is increasing in Antarctica.

Since when does truth matter to the christian science monitor? They are probably hooked into the U.S. government or the UN in some way now so they will parrot what they are told. I don’t think Jesus Christ has much sway in their organization anymore.

  2. Lance says:

I believe it was all based on model runs for climate etc etc…but I have to agree, more ice will cause the decline in the population, as it will require more energy and time to travel back and forth from the ocean to where the young ones are growing….thus, many will die, only the strongest and fittest will survive.
Yes, expect the population to decline as the ice increases….(but we won’t hear that part of the story)

the CSM needs to get out a bit more often, and maybe read some other news papers besides their own.

Who cares about the penguins? They are all perverts anyhow.

  5. Robertvdl says:

Along with nine other species of penguin, it is currently under consideration for inclusion under the US Endangered Species Act.

The primary reasons for this are declining food availability due to the effects of climate change and INDUSTRIAL FISHERIES on the crustacean and fish populations. Other reasons for their potential placement on this list include disease, habitat destruction, and DISTURBANCE AT BREEDING COLONIES BY HUMANS. Of particular concern is the impact of TOURISM.[38] One study has shown Emperor Penguin chicks in a créche become more apprehensive following HELICOPTER APPROACH to 1,000 m (3,281 ft).[39]

It’s man made but has nothing to do with climate

    • Robertvdl says:

“Sea ice is important for penguins and for other things living around Antarctica. For instance, krill, the tiny shrimplike animals that penguins and other animals eat, feed on algae that grow on the underside of sea ice. What’s more the penguins raise their young on the ice during the harsh Antarctic winter. However, this makes getting close enough to the birds to study difficult for scientists.”

‘harsh Antarctic winter’ and ‘melting sea ice ‘ don’t go together

.Oops – Antarctic ice shelves not disappearing after all

“Antarctic ice shelves not melting at all, new field data show,” reads the headline in the UK Register.

“Previous ocean models … have predicted temperatures and melt rates that are too high, suggesting a significant mass loss in this region that is actually not taking place,” says Tore Hattermann of the Norwegian Polar Institute, member of a team which has obtained two years’ worth of direct measurements below the massive Fimbul Ice Shelf in eastern Antarctica – the first ever to be taken.”

I wonder if any of the gullible twits that burned tons of GHG emissions in order to join Manbearpig, Homer and the Virgin Airline Playboy in their pilgrimage to the Antarctica, are aware of this study? I wonder how they will react to finding out that they were duped and there was never any real measured data on ice melt in Antarctic until now. How will their teeny brains that were filled with nothing more than WAG propaganda fabricated by untested models built by the former scientists turned activist climate inquisitionists, deal with a new reality based on real scientific measurement?

Most religions are founded on far more substinative information than that which they got from the three stooges in the Antarctic. The icing on the cake of hypocrisy is that these twits have come back from the Antarctic as “witnesses” testifiying for their blind faith in the Bovine Scatology they were fed as if it were manna from heaven. Will they still rant as madmen calling others who question their religion, deniers? Of course they will. 🙂

The chicks waved their flippers at the helicopter. I can’t believe that is apprehension; more like a friendly greeting.

  6. Emperor penguins are less than 10,000 years old, then, right? I mean, if they can’t possibly live without Antarctic sea-ice, they’d’ve gone extinct.

  7. Dagnabit, ‘how’ do you “turn off”” smur’t qu'”uoats?’

  8. I think the point of the article is that sea ice has been declining on the peninsular where this emperor penguin habitant is found. Although it’s not clear how global warming can selectively warm a few spots in Antarctica, cool other regions, and result in increasing sea ice levels around the continent overall. What you deniers here fail to understand is that the science is all very very very complex (although it’s all also based on clear cut ‘applied physics’).

  9. This was my comment at EarthSky (http://earthsky.org/earth/melting-sea-ice-trouble-for-emperor-penguins)

Rising temperatures, melting ice? That’s a lie.

    See where Terra Adélie is:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad%C3%A9lie_Land

And there, you can find Dumont d’Urville Station:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumont_d%27Urville_Station

And here you have temperature data from the station:
    http://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/gistemp_station.py?id=700896420008&data_set=1&num_neighbors=1

As you can see, since 1950 mean temperature never got over -8.5ºC, and it has been going down since 1980, being now at about -10.5ºC

  10. Christopher Korvin says:

According to TV documentaries the penguins have to hike over land and over ice to get food for their newly hatched chicks further inland. It is apparently a difficult ,chancy ,dangerous trip.If there is less ice the penguins get to the ocean more easily, get food more quickly and feed their little ones more easily. Therefore unless I have been misinformed, less coastal ice is good for penguins
