America’s Wind Power Leader Facing Critical Blackouts

Texas led the charge into wind energy, and is now facing blackouts – just when they need the electricity the most.

The state is facing potential power shortages that could leave you with out electricity this summer and you might not know it, until it happens.

But because so many people use so much electricity during hot summer months, it knocks that number down to less than 10-percent.

That’s when we are at a higher risk of having uncontrolled black outs.

In order to make sure that doesn’t happen, ERCOT is asking customers to be conservative with their electricity.

Otherwise they will tell electric companies to shut off power to portions of their customers.

  1. Beale says:

Why is this happening in Texas of all states?

    • Lou says:

Because of Obama, Al Gore, and a lot of other idiots. I guess I will find out how bad it’d get in Texas in the next few years if they are not building new generators or natural gas power plants.

      • Beale says:

I mean how and why did Texas become the “wind power leader”?

      • miked1947 says:

Government subsidies made wind a lucrative investment for those who put immediate profit before the reality of long term environmental destruction.

      T. Boone Pickens

      T. Boone Pickens had some colossal scam going to procure $millions/$billions in govt. subsidies and land. After he got what he wanted he bailed on wind “energy”.

    • keith says:

      T. B. Pickens is just trying to gin up more demand for his natural gas. Pickens has more natural gas than god, and the new fracking technology has driven the value of Pickens natural gas holdings right through the FLOOR. Sniff, Sniff, it makes me want to pass the hat for the poor good old boy. Sniff. LOL ” Hey buddy can you spare a dime?”

Got a share option on candles ? Might be a winner.

    • keith says:

How’s about whale oil lamps? Unlike the crude oil used to make paraffin candles, whale oil is renewable.

  3. Gerald says:

Most power plants in Texas run on coal. Some power plants have closed at the operators discretion in order to avoid upgrading their smokestacks to meet sulfur reduction requirements (I think this was Bush the lesser but it may have been Clinton.) The operators will save money by not upgrading and will make more money with increased demand.
Texas has a lot of open space and Wind-the primary requirement for a wind farm.
A better question to ask is why have the other renewable energy source been taken off line. Texas has a few Hydroelectric plants but some have been taken offline permanently.

  4. NobodysaysBOO! says:

This is George Bush/ENRON BULL! The state of MEXAS err Texas has natural gass out the wazoo and many many natural gas power plants on standby or cold standby
. Natural gas is very cheap today , THIS is why they are bulling the public again while they charge you an ENERGY FUEL CHARGE for coal/oil they don’t use If they crank up the gas fired plants they will be forced to CHARGE LESS PER KW!

  5. keith says:

Years ago a friend stopped in Amarillo, Texas and asked me what kept the whole danged place from blowing away? I told him that every 48 hours the wind changes directions and it all blows right back in place.

  6. keith says:

If you are a green liberal and want to reduce the Department of Defense budget you’ll love this one. The Obama Administration want’s the DoD to switch to green gasoline and Diesel fuel… at the piddling cost of only $24.00 a gallon. Even this price is a bargain when compared to the deal the Obama Administration struck with our good friends and allies, the Pakistanis who delivers gas and Diesel to Afghanistan for only $200 per gallon.

  7. keith says:

I find it strange that with all the reliable wind power locations in Texas (like in the pan handle) that the largest number of wind turbines are in the least reliable areas for wind generation, extreme south east Texas.
