102 degree heat expected in Fort Collins today, shattering record
It was hot this morning, but triple-digit heat will scorch Fort Collins this afternoon.
The expected high today in the city is 102 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. That would shatter the previous record of 100 degrees set in 1936.
The average historic high temperature for today is 80 degrees. A triple-digit high today is no error, said NWS meteorologist Kari Bowen. “We are expecting those high temperatures for this area today,” she said. “The reason for that is the jet is up north, we have this big ridge of high pressure that’s building in, causing all the air to sink and heat up.”
Expect the thermometer to begin breaking records between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The official high temperature in Fort Collins today was 98 degrees, two degrees cooler than 1936. According to the rhetoric of the newspaper, 1936 “shattered” 2012 temperatures.
“HOT PERIODS ELSEWHERE.
Thus, for example, in July, 1885, the thermometer at West Las Animas, Colorado, rose on the 15th to 105.2,”

That is what is commonly known as “counting your chickens before they hatch”. Now matter how many times a Weather Service or media bird brain says a record is broken, it ain’t broken until it is broken!

The weather here is very dependent on the direction of the wind. Yesterday we had downslope winds off the mountains and it got hot. Today we are getting upslope winds and it is much cooler. Forecasting here is very tricky because of the proximity to the mountains.
The NWS wasn’t too bad, when we lived in PHL, but up here in NH we’re lucky if they’re within 10°F. They predict 86°, we get 68°. They predict 72°, we get 55°.
