I am going to use some Rahmstorf/USGS logic to prove that Sarah Palin will soon be able to ride her snowmobile to Russia.
Sea level at Churchill has dropped by more than half a metre!

Sea level at Yakutat has dropped by almost a full metre!

Sea level at Seldovia has dropped almost a metre

If we ignore isostasy and tectonics (like USGS and Rahmstorf did) it is easy to prove that sea level is plummeting. Similarly, University of Texas geniuses declared that East Antarctica was losing ice – by ignoring the fact that the ground underneath the ice was falling.
Looks like that’s what causing the permafrost thawing
Looks as if you have discovered Canada’s areas of post-glacial rebound or glacial isostatic adjustment. Here is a diagram of what has been happening in the Lake Superior area: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Diagram_showing_historical_levels_of_Lake_Superior.jpg
Finding single data points like this has no bearing on the question of whether sea levels are rising. Only long-term, multiple, systematic readings can address that question. The results of these observations 1880-present are to be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Recent_Sea_Level_Rise.png
Great minds think alike. I was planning to comment on exactly what you posted, Steve.
Another alternative would be to come up with an excuse/hypothesis for why the rest of the world’s sea level trends do not comport with the readings in Alaska and Manitoba. I expect Rahmstorf to do the same in his next paper, arguing that only the highest positive sea level trends are ‘valid’, and the rest must be adjusted to comply.
How is the air quality out there from the fires?
No smoke here in Fort Collins since the weekend. Humidity has picked up and Monsoon season is getting started.
