And here I was thinking that global warming would cause the globe to warm, globally. Instead it causes localised forest fires, with reference to statistical fire trends being irrelevant. Who would have thought?

Isn’t it odd how AGW is the cause of alternately excess moisture in the air or excess dryness. Basically if it’s deemed to be bad AGW causes it.

Yesterday evening I was driving from Santa Fe, NM to Albuquerque and there was a torrential downpour. Some of the heaviest rain I’ve seen in about 5 years in New Mexico.
I spent much of the 1950s through the 1980s in Los Alamos, and saw distinct cycles in the climate. The 1950s were very dry. During the 1960s, the summer rains came like clockwork every day. During the Carter years it was very dry with lots of fires, and after Reagan was elected, the skiing was incredible for a few years with unbelievable amounts of snow from 1980-1984.
I was here then too and remember the good skiing years under Reagan very well. But the past has no relevance to any discussion about climate. In February 2011 it was 14 below zero in parts of Albuquerque, in 2006 it snowed 18 inches in one day and rained unbelievable amounts during the summer, yet people are telling me now a few days of 100 degree temperatures prove climate change and that the southwestern US is in a “permanent drought”.
I think the last major forest fire in Maine was in 1948, so they are overdue for another one.
Baxter State Park is a park only because at one time the entire park area burned over. So the lumber companies weren’t interested in that area and Baxter bought it all and turned into a park.
