Almost everyone believes that the earth has warmed over the last 80 years. The reason we believe that is because the same people who have been tampering with the US data set tell us that the planet has warmed over the last 80 years. Do we have any other reason to believe it?
No.
We know that the planet warmed from 1910 to 1945. We know that the planet cooled from 1950 to 1975. We know that the planet warmed from 1975 to 1998. Beyond those pieces of information, the relative position of 2012 and 1940 is a mystery.
So stop drooling. That is what Hansen wants you to do.
In my mind, this speaks to what has always been the most obvious FAIL in the whole man-made warming theory. The terribly minuscule timeframes on which the CAGW trends try to depend. 50 years? 100? 150?
This planet, this solar system ‘trends’ in tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of years. Warmists, collect data for another several thousand years, then maybe you can begin to speak of ‘trends.’ What you’re trying to convince me of with your current data, equates to: “Ok, you just blinked a second ago. From that one blink, I can determine precisely the rate and total number of your blinks for the rest of your life. And those of your children.” It’s absurd. Especially when data from more respectably longer timeframes crushes your man-made warming theories.
Thank you , leftinbrooklyn , that was very well stated. But then common sense is clear to some of us. The warmists seem to have lost it or never had it to start with.
Unfortunately, common sense no longer seems to pay well.
Well Steve, even sceptics who have looked at this have detected warming of around .5C, maybe slightly more, in the global data. But that could be simply ‘noise’ of one form or another. A stronger case can be made for there not being any significant (reliably measurable) warming in the United States, though. However, this is in part beside the point. We are supposed to be experiencing accelerated warming now, due to ‘unprecedented’ forcings. (No volcanic eruptions, ‘high’ levels of CO2, etc.) So what’s of most interest is what has happened over the last 10, 15 or 20 years.
You know how I much I appreciate appeals to authority
I don’t appeal to authority. I assume you’re aware of the paper currently being discussed on WUWT as much I am.
I also hear that the Koch Brothers funded a study which proved GISS was golden.
Are you aware of a skeptic study which shows that temperatures are warmer now than the 1930s?
Depends how you define ‘sceptic’ and it also depends on where you are looking.
Are you aware of any legit studies that show that temperatures have warmed since the 1930s?
