Check out this prediction from last week on Jeff Master’s blog. The High Park fire will burn until winter
Here in High Park Fire land, we have had about 25% of our average annual rainfall – just during the last week. You couldn’t start a fire here if your life depended on it.

None of this has stopped Obama’s Department of The Interior from banning all shooting in Colorado and Wyoming. You never know when hot lead might strike flood water and spontaneously combust.
Yeah, I saw that on his blog the other day, that Neapolitan is a huge alarmist on that blog, perhaps just as bad, if not worse than Masters himself, and he’s always shouting how warm NOAA’s one month outlooks are and makes some of the most absurd claims left and right. Pretty much every time he posts, it’s almost guaranteed to be a bunch of crap.
Just about as dumb as Bill McKibben and the 350.org crowd not melting a HOAX ice-sculpture outside in front of Capitol Hill.
Anthony Watts has it at http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/07/07/350-org-cancels-melting-hoax-ice-sculpture/
Really disappointed they cancelled the ice melt. Great ridicule opportunity. Apparently they were scared the ice would melt too slowly and lose their photo-ops and shocking headlines of “Ice Melts in 100 Degree Temp.”
Reblogged this on Climate Ponderings.
You should see what their complaining about now, the lake Michigan water temperatures being so warm, 11 degrees above average. I think that’s a bunch of BS.
Apparently Winter arrived early this year.
Does anybody still doubt that God hates liberals?
Boy, He set ’em up good this time!
BLM restrictions in Wyoming are for incendiary and tracer ammunition in the counties I checked. No responsible gun owner should be using these in dry conditions anyway. I could not find where all shooting was banned on BLM land in Wyoming.
I live 25 miles from Wyoming and we are flooded. You couldn’t start a fire if you needed to to survive.
I understand Colorado is wet. I live 150 miles north of you and have had no rain in about a month. My yard is dirt. Any grass that grew is now standing dead. Under those conditions, it is irresponsible to use the ammunition listed. The BLM is not capable of lifting restrictions instantaneously (assuming they wanted to) in response to precipitation. Plus, where I live, a week of 95 degree temps and wind (which admittedly is pretty much nonexistent these days) can dry everything back out. It does seem annoying that bans are enacted because some irresponsible people start fires being careless. There is also a ban on welding in an area that is not clear. In 1996, someone welding to the south of where I live started a fire with a spark from welding that burned over 20,000 acres. The rules don’t stop stupid but they do alert the educable people on dangers and hopefully the prairies and forests don’t burn as much. My point was there is no total ban on shooting on BLM land in Wyoming as far as I can verify.
1) Actually, that wasn’t “last week”; it was nearly two weeks ago. June 26 to July 8 is 12 days. Any calendar can help you with this.
2) The High Park Fire being referred to is at 100% containment, but it isn’t “out”; it’s still listed as “active”. (http://www.inciweb.org/incident/2904/). “The fire continues to smolder and smoke…” That is, it’s still burning.
3) The statement that the fire would likely burn until fall came, as noted, from fire officials; it wasn’t my own personal forecast.
For some reason, I hoped for more from this group. But then again, nuance, context, and subtlety never were hallmarks of the denialist crowd…
Jim,
I live three miles from the High Park Fire and we have had phenomenal amounts of rain over the last two weeks. Radar shows close to eight inches. There is absolutely no chance that any part of that fire is still burning.
No doubt that since you consider yourself qualified to discuss Colorado weather, you were fully aware that Monsoon season arrives here in July and normally ends the fire season. People who have been saying that the fire season is “just starting” are clearly not knowledgeable about the subject. Fire season here is May/June and sometimes in October.
