The graph below plots all July 4th 100 degree readings taken in Virginia. USHCN reports sixteen July 4th readings (among eighteen stations) over 100 degrees in Virginia from 1895-2011
The hottest July 4th was 105F at Woodstock, Virginia in 1898. Half of the 100 degree days were more than a century ago, and all but one occurred with CO2 below 350 ppm.
Four 100+ degree readings were reported on July 4, 1898 – at Woodstock, Fredericksburg, Farmville and Staunton
People who are trying to blame the heat in DC on CO2 are either incompetent or liars.
But before 1979 there were no satellites to measure the temperature and no Hansen to do the proper temperature adjustments. Thus all those readings have to be thrown out!! Only alarmists know what’s best for us children.
This is just an anecdote, but I remember that in July of 1977 the temperature in Richmond, Virginia went to 105F three days in a row. The power company had to use rotating blackouts. It got to 104F in Richmond yesterday, but there is plenty of power. People there are screaming this is proof of global warming. I guess weather becomes climate when it suits your belief system.
