The Second Coming Of Their God

I made a post explaining the drop in extent over the last few days, as being due to wind out of the Kara and Laptev Seas compressing the ice.

This offended the religious sensibilities of “Jak” who sees the second coming of the 2007 minimum as a sacred and holy icon to be worshipped. So he launched into this lunatic rambling diatribe.

jak says:

Steven,

You and I may have disagreed several times over various subjects; and my respect for you is quite limited, because you are such an incorrigible and transparent liar.

But I would like to say this. You really are beginning to grow in my respect, because, although you must clearly be able to see that your position is completely untenable, still you perservere.

There is something genuinely noble in your stance. IMHO, your war on reality, as defined by anybody who has the slightest idea of what they’re on about, is not going well.

But we both know this. And you have kept to your post.

Elsewhere on the conservative/demented side of the climate debate, a deathly hush.

As the data has poured in from the North this year, nothing from WUWT – two weeks now – Delingpole, last seen charging at windmills – Jo Nova – well, its all to do with the Northern Hemisphere – does the North Pole exist?

I imagine that you might find this hurtful… to be abandoned here, without a leg to stand on, in the last ditch. But there is something almost noble about it. The 12 year olds that died in Berlin in 1945 for Adolf… the Japs that only surrendered in 1963.

You are clearly mad; but you are not a pathetic snivelling coward, like several other leading conservative commentators.

Indeed, you are the last man standing. A worthy champion of the Romney/Ryan position on science.

No, Jak. It is about the wind in the Laptev Sea compressing the ice. Get a grip.

obviously the long-standing American obsession of diagnosing mental capacity by political affiliation is still showing strong. 🙂

  2. Billy in NZ says:

Wow jak, thats pretty tuff words, specially when in my eyes it’s the warmists losing the battle.Don’t worry about WUWT,Jo Nova,Judith Curry,Donna Laframboise, and many, many others see the warmistas as only scare mongers. It’s your game that is up,not ours.I think that m.mann is even trembling in his boots.Him and hansen are on a downhill slide. From where I see things jak,you are the mad one.I would suggest you take your medication, and preach to your new found religion.

Nice rant Jak, I too admire Steve for his persistence and lack of censorship, although we do disagree on most things. Not sure he is insane though, just a lovable eccentric.

Steve, if this is a southerly wind it will be warm and therefore melting ice in situe as well as compressing it. What you need to do is get figures for the amount of melt v compression and then you can state whether it is mainly compression or mainly melt.

Whenever the summer minumum arrives screptics always claim it is the wind. The other side will mainly mention melt, but actually it is a mixture of the two.

Steve, Jak has got a grip … but its on the wrong thing 😉

  5. Billy in NZ says:

    Hi Streetcred,you mean jak off?PMSL

  6. A lunatic gazes into a mirror but does not recognise himself.

  7. And meanwhile UAH continues to track below last year, despite a mild El Nino.

The Berlin metaphor of Jak’s is ironic. It seems to me that the Warmists have retreated to their bunker in the Arctic as the rest of the planet is steadfastedly refusing to play ball.

    • Whatever says:

It is now the hottest 19-month continuous weather in the historical record. The “planet refuses to play ball” — what sport are you referring to?

    • rw says:

I’m willing to grant them a “Hurrah” on this one (sorry, guys, about the US drought stopping inconveniently, the dearth of hurricanes hitting the East Coast over the past 7 years, the cool temperatures in the southern hemisphere, and the cold winters in Europe – but then you can’t win ’em all).

      • rw says:

It just occurred to me that climatology may be making a signal contribution to PostNormal Science. Instead of the conjunctive verification that we’ve all assumed until now without even considering it critically (i.e. the hypothesis in question must predict propositions P1 ^ P2 ^ … ^ Pn), in PostNormal Science disjunctive verification is sufficient (i.e. P1 V P2 V … V Pn).

  8. Edward Bonney says:

This is not the first time wind compresses the ice – it happens over and over again. It is the overall trend in arctic ice extent that counts. Unbelievable how many people are in self denial – It makes me despair of humanity

Really? No other possible reasons? How about water T? water flow speed?… wind not just compacting but removing ice southward? BTW, the videos clearly show the compacting as well as the path of ice exit, all in conjunction with an unusually large and cold artic cyclone just previous.

  10. I’m still looking for the proof that what is happening to Arctic ice right now has never happened before in the history of man.

  11. jak made it easy to see he was motivated by politics in saying this. It was heavy on politics, and absent of scientific data.

How will jak cope with the night Barack Obama loses in less than 2 1/2 months? I wonder how he fared with Al Gore losing? He is not faring well with the idea of ‘Romney/Ryan’. I wonder what he feels when he sees the word ‘Bush’?

jak, how do the words ‘Constitution’, and ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’ make you feel? How about the word ‘God’?

  13. Traitor In Chief says:

How is the warming religion going to fare when they finally realize China is the big emitter now and has no intention of changing course?

US hydrocarbon consumption has fallen by my last read. What will they do with the guilt complex?

And after they Mod the algorithms for measuring extent to the point they declare zero ice, then what? Nothing will happen, except the usual refreeze like every year. So inconvenient. Polar Bears will thrive, temps will drift lower, but oh, the wailing and gnashing of teeth!

    🙂

  14. Gond says:

Amino, I really don’t give a crap who is going to lead that politically dysfunctional country of yours as I don’t have to live over there. And yes, I’m interested in the science related to the cryosphere, yes I have scientific training and yes I’m in contact with the people doing the real science. What makes you an expert on cryosphere – your political views?

    • Your views are based on opinion.

You still haven’t told me what data show this rapid warming in the Arctic.

      • Gond says:

As far as I know all the calibrated global temperature datasets show Arctic warming, as do the weather reanalysis datasets like the one done by ECMWF. I’ve posted the link a couple of times. Reanalysis datasets might even be preferred as they’re based on modelling of the weather and they assimilate large amounts of satellite data, which polar-orbiting satellites provide 10-15 times a day each.

      • You’ve never posted a link to me. You mean you expected me to scour the internet to find your links?

Amd explain what you are describing as alarming warming in the Arctic.

      • Yeah, modelling. Thanks for nothing. What could I expect from you but that.

I want real data kid. How many times do I have to present the concept of the real world to you before you stop bringing opinions and guesses to me?

    • “and yes I’m in contact with the people doing the real science.”

Explain the nature of this contact. I’m thinking you found a couple of emails at web sites and wrote to them, and they replied. Am I right? But who knows, maybe you have coffee with them on a daily basis.

      • Gond says:

I’m involved with remote sensing of the cryosphere, which takes me into contact with scientists quite regularly.

      • So then you should have a better understanding of real world data and stop talking about modelling and guesses.

      • I’m involved with remote sensing of the cryosphere, which takes me into contact with scientists quite regularly.

Hi Steven guess what Romney saying is nearly the same bull The Met Office released on the BBC Weather online coming off with the arctic sea will break 2007 record sea ice melt coming off several more weeks of melt to come I can’t stop laughing at this they are going over with their lies big time look it for your self you laugh over it and I believe they using one of Hanson’s made up arctic graths friend you to know when this lying is going to ever stop but look it up

  16. jak says:

    Hi Steve,

Kudos to you. Looks like you’re still the only man stepping up to the plate on this.

WUWT cancels SEA ICE UPDATE 11 indefinitely… runs a load of garbage about some dirty laundry they found in somebody else’s trash, only it turns out its clean laundry. Ho hum.
