Florida was hit by two hurricanes during the second half of August 1871, including a major hurricane.
A few weeks later, massive forest forest fires burned up two million acres in the Great Lakes region – killing thousands of people in Wisconsin and Michigan during America’s deadliest fires. Chicago also burned to the ground.
It has now been seven years since a hurricane hit Florida, and 141 years since Chicago burned to the ground.
If these events happened now, James Hansen would claim that he predicted them, and that they happened because no one listened to him.
Chicago has not burned down for lack of trying.
