The hockey team is getting bolder and bolder with their lies. None more than the director of GISS.
Climate change is here — and worse than we thought
By James E. Hansen, Friday, August 3, 5:52 PM
When I testified before the Senate in the hot summer of 1988 , I warned of the kind of future that climate change would bring to us and our planet. I painted a grim picture of the consequences of steadily increasing temperatures, driven by mankind’s use of fossil fuels.
But I have a confession to make: I was too optimistic.
My projections about increasing global temperature have been proved true.
Climate change is here — and worse than we thought – The Washington Post
Temperatures have actually been lower than Hansen’s lowest 1988 forecast, which assumed that humans quit emitting CO2 after the year 2000. The graph below is right off his web site.
”scenario C assumes a rapid curtailment of trace gas emissions such that the net climate forcing ceases to increase after the year 2000.”
His graph shows almost no warming for a decade, which is not what any honest person would call steadily increasing temperatures.
In 1999, Hansen wrote the exact opposite
Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.
Since then, temperatures have hardly changed. What happens to a person before they decide to start lying about everything?
Models doing a fantastic job of tracking global temperatures. 🙂

Steve, something seems broken: when I click on “older posts” I get a horrible mess of html links (nothing else) whose letters increase in height as I scroll down.
Older posts? The theme I am using shouldn’t have a link like that
“What happens to a person before they decide to start lying about everything?”
Cognitive dissonance? From Leon Festinger, who coined the term after studying a cult whose prediction that the world would end on 21 Dec 1954 failed to come true:
“Suppose an individual believes something with his whole heart; suppose further that he has a commitment to this belief, that he has taken irrevocable actions because of it; finally, suppose that he is presented with evidence, unequivocal and undeniable evidence, that his belief is wrong: what will happen? The individual will frequently emerge, not only unshaken, but even more convinced of the truth of his beliefs than ever before. Indeed, he may even show a new fervor about convincing and converting other people to his view.”

I wonder why that graph wasn’t included in the Washington Post article?
Just to clarify, is scenario C based on stopping emissions after 2000 or not increasing after 2000?
Even if the latter, you would think that they would want to proclaim the good news, that temperatures were below those expected even if we had kept emissions at the 2000 level.
” scenario C assumes a rapid curtailment of trace gas emissions such that the net climate forcing ceases to increase after the year 2000.” * * i.e. humans disappeared off the planet in the year 2000

The NRDC Crooks And the Govt. lawsuit charade
The incestuous relationship between the government and environmental groups extends beyond litigation. In addition to subsidizing their lawsuits, the government is also a leading sponsor of these groups, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. As David Horowitz and I report in our new book, The New Leviathan, between 2008 and 2010, 247 left-wing environmental groups received almost $569 million in federal grants. During the same period, conservative and free market-friendly environmental groups also received government grants, but a comparatively piddling $728,000.
While some of this funding has come during the Obama presidency, the federal government serves as a cash cow for the environmental movement regardless of the White House occupant. For instance, the NRDC’s relentless attacks on the Bush administration’s environmental record did not stop it from receiving $2.6 million from the EPA during the first three years of the Bush presidency. Similarly, the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), another major environmental group, has sued the EPA numerous times over the past decade. But that hasn’t interrupted the group’s cash flow: the government has given the EDF $2.76 million in grants during that period.
The truly sad part about this legal boondoggle is that the millions in government funds frittered away on environmental litigation could have been put toward meaningful environmental protection efforts. Instead, the money has been spent enriching what is anything but an endangered species in America: trial lawyers.

I’ll be checking it out.
On the Hansen note, it is difficult to assess his outspoken misrepresentation of temperature and CO2 data without at least considering fraud or some kind or mental instability or mental sickness on his part. It’s just idle speculation, but really, how can he just blatantly and publicly misrepresent facts and data unless he is insane or a fraud?
Reblogged this on Climate Ponderings.
To answer your question, money and fame.
Hansen saw the lucre gained by others by touting AGW and became bored with his life and his work. He dove in head first and is now so entirely committed that no amount of real world evidence will ever convince him otherwise. He’s found his God and is now devoting the rest of his life to Him.
If Gore could get away with it and have the media cover for him, so could Hansen. If we had any decent journalists, this scam would have been exposed years ago.
Nullius in verba.
Hansen understands perfectly well that the educated, literate Western taxpayer doesn’t think for himself. He understands exactly how much the MSM fact checks and thinks critically: not at all.
Christopher Field’s statements to Congress about what the IPCC say is a clear demonstration that you need not expect anyone to question you or check your statements. Probably because the decision-makers don’t care what you say: they will do as they and their buddies think they should do. And they don’t bother to fact check either: it’ll all come out in the wash and so they don’t have to bother.
At least, that seems to be how they think. Ego, agenda and laziness. And greed.
Hansen……..another dick-head who should never have been given a science degree!!!
Could it be dimentia?
