Muller Proves He Is Incompetent

I think the conclusion that urban heat islands contribute essentially zero to the warming we see is on very solid ground.

The National Weather Service has documented 7-13F UHI in Phoenix

By the end of the series, there was a +4 to 7 ºC (7 to 13 ºF) difference between the urban minimum temperatures and the rural minimum temperatures.

Barrow has 2.2C UHI

During winter (December 2001–March 2002),
the urban area averaged 2.2 °C warmer than the hinterland.

But Muller says there is no UHI

I doubt that he is that incompetent. He’s just doing what he feels he needs to do to promote “The Cause”. OTOH, if he really does believe this “no UHI” crap then he has just elevated himself to the pinnacle of the junk science club, along with Mike Mann.

  2. Don Sutherland says:

The proper context needs to be given. Dr. Muller is talking about the impact of UHI after appropriate adjustments are made. UHI is one of the reasons, data has to be adjusted if one is to have a reasonably accurate climate record. In any case, Dr. Muller is not talking about raw data. After homogenization, the impact of UHI on the global temperature record is very small.

Hey Don , what is your idea of the proper context ? Is it to believe you or my lying eyes ? Muller is spinning so fast he is going to wear out the point on his top . Don , do you suffer from anasognasia?

    • Don Sutherland says:

      Johnmcguire,

Proper context would be to disclose that Dr. Muller was talking about the impact of UHI after adjustment. Homogenization largely addresses that issue. He was not suggesting that UHI does not exist. There’s a substantial difference between addressing the minimal impact of UHI in the adjusted temperature data and suggesting that UHI does not exist.
