Maybe 1948 is a better comparison than 1980.

2nd worst? Um, presidents didn’t magically appear in the 1970s.

I don’t think you got an A in American History in college. Look up a guy named Warren Harding.

    • I rather like Harding, in many respects. He certainly led the effort to shrink a bloated government, reduce unemployment, and eliminate racism without the need to install new racism to counter it. And he was no fan of the League of Nations.

A recording of the Teapot Dome speech is in my collection.

Harding was anti-Progressive, which magnified his faults and caused history writers to focus on negatives. The rewarding of friends and supporters with cabinet positions was hardly new — look at Andrew Jackson’s “spoils” handouts of a century before. Harding was an imperfect man, but with good notions for the work at hand.

He seems to have been just the right person to have in place to begin to unwind the huge government spending of the World War; imagine if a Wilson acolyte or FDR (or Obama!) had been in charge.

Without Harding, would we have had the prosperous Roaring 20s?

As for the original post: It is audacious to compare Romney with Reagan, I think, but I also hope that he can live up to that promise. And learn from the lessons and the successes (and failures) of that time. There are indeed interesting parallels.

Michelle Malkin just put the spotlight on this must see video of Paul Ryan discussing medicare reform. It is important that we viralize it, and get Democrats and independents to watch it before the leftists get around to putting up their bogus arguments against it:

I saw a poll result that indicated that 31% of Americans believe that the economy can only improve if Obama is elected (which means that it can’t if Romney is elected). In other news, the American Health Association announced that 31% of Americans are so stupid that they can’t walk and breathe at the same time. /sarc
