In 1955, major hurricane Connie struck Virginia. Since then, the only other hurricane was category 2 Isabel in 1993.
During the 1870s (when CO2 was very safe) Virginia was hit by three hurricanes, including a major hurricane.

Rotten Hurricanes now…
I thought Isabel hit in 2003.
Me too, the only system to even come close in 1993 was Emily
Isablel did indeed hit in 2003. Irene caught us last year (2011). Donna caught us in 1960.
They claim Irene was a hurricane when it hit Virginia, but we all know better.

Very, very sad day in sports:

government completely out of control
The most recent judge threw the case out.
“USADA’s conduct raises serious questions about whether its real interest in charging Armstrong is to combat doping, or if it is acting according to less noble motives,” such as politics or publicity, U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks wrote.
Floyd in 1999 passed over southeastern Virginia as a hurricane.

Hurricane Floyd was still a category 1 when it passed over Virginia. NOAA seems to contradict themselves here, because Floyd was not classified as a tropical storm until 1800z on September 16, 1999 when it was at 38.0 degrees N 75.3 degrees W, or once it reached the Delmarva peninsula. Was still a hurricane over SE Virginia
Hurricane Charley of 1986 was also a hurricane over SE Virginia, even though it made landfall in North Carolina as a minimal hurricane, it was able to maintain it’s strength over land because of instability and its proximity to the atlantic ocean.
