The Godfather Continues His Crime Streak

The research by a man often called the “godfather of global warming” says that the likelihood of such temperatures occurring from the 1950s through the 1980s was rarer than 1 in 300. Now, the odds are closer to 1 in 10, according to the study by NASA scientist James Hansen. He says that statistically what’s happening is not random or normal, but pure and simple climate change.

The Associated Press: New study links current events to climate change

No, it is pure and simple cherry-picking. Had he compared against the 1930s he would have seen that recent temperatures have been relatively quite cool.

Data is for all USHCN stations which were operational during both the 1930s and the most recent decade.

The article on Hansen was in our paper today (Tampa Bay Times). The interesting detail is this- the paper’s online version is headlined “New study links current events to climate change”. However, the dead tree version has the byline “An activist scientist says statistics show heat waves resulted from climate change”.

Activist scientist. Now there’s a dead-certain oxymoron. I am, however, surprised that this insult was deliberately inserted into the print edition. Or maybe its not an insult…??

It’s a little generous. Scientist? It’s kind of a long shot.

I’m amazed Hansen hadn’t used a new version of pre-corrected mean of statically adjusted, averaged, homogenized, post-corrected, post-normalized, interpreted, statistically fitted, temperature data-set.
    He’s loosing his touch.

Does Hansen do this because he is a Money Grubbing Climate Activist Darling of the Left?

Or does he do this because his ego will not allow him to admit that CO2 did not convert Venus into an inferno?

You pick. In either case, he’s a class all his own. I wonder if other Activist Scientists resent Hansen because he brings in vastly more consulting fees than he does.

More records from 1910 than any of the last 75 years. Clear evidence of catastrophic warming! (sarc)

Yep, Seth’s article was a full page in my local (unbiased) paper today in the Chicago suburbs.
It did mention some dissenting voices, including Christy.

Nothing like hot weather to bring out the climate change activists, the article had many “global warming” mentions which may need some spin in about 6 months.

On short memories, this is from 2009:

“Even in the years before 1942, when the National Weather Service recorded temperatures at the cooler lakefront, there are only three years that had colder Julys through the 26th.

There have also been far more days than usual with high temperatures less than 80 degrees this year. In 2009, there were 13 days where the temperature did not exceed 80 degrees. Only three Julys in the past 67 years have had more days in Chicago with highs less than 80 – there were 18 such days in 1992, and 14 in 1996 and 2000.

We have also failed to reach 90 degrees at any time this month.”

    What’s the Bastardi quote ?
Enjoy the weather it is the only one we got.

I also noticed the AP piece was sure to mention Hansen is an activist/scientist, but I thought that they tried to write the article without taking a stance on the issue.

Even journalists must see that this man is a disillusioned, manic depressive and a sad modern definition of what you englishspeakers call debbie the downer.
