Sea Ice Area Sets New Record High

The amount of sea ice around Antarctica is the greatest ever for the date, and the thirteenth highest daily value ever measured. Most of the world’s sea ice is located around Antarctica, and it has been steadily increasing for at least 30 years.

Hansen predicted peak sea ice loss around Antarctica, because he has no clue what he is doing.

Strange I didn’t see that headline over at the BBC…

    • Hugh K says:

The establishment media is consumed with supposedly dwindling arctic sea ice. Which to independent thinker types does seem a bit strange considering Antarctica has about 87% of Earth’s ice.

    • RobertvdL says:

because he has no clue what he is doing.

    • Yeah it was some guy in Greece warning the Greeks that they couldn’t pay back their debts that caused Greek economy to crash. If it wasn’t for that evil guy, the Greeks would still be borrowing money today and everyone would be happy and there would be no European debt crisis. πŸ˜‰

      • That’s far too silly – next you’ll be telling me the poles are melting! When you look at this logically it can only be the threat of the Greeks releasing the Kraken that has the economy going into flight mode every time there’s a grumble from Athens.

I have also postulated that the it could also be the Kraken rather than natural cycles causing the north pole to melt, which is a much more plausible theory than the one put forward by Global Warning Sharks.

Don’t worry summer is just around the corner down there, and the cherries will be in season then. πŸ˜‰

  3. Edward. says:

    Record sea ice?

Not a hoot from the MSM in Britain, silence can be deafening.

  4. kirkmyers says:

Increasing sea ice in Antarctica doesn’t fit the CO2-is-warming-planet meme. Therefore, the alarmists and their pressitute allies simply ignore it while distracting attention with ominous claims of an impending ice-free arctic. When the meltdown doesn’t occur as predicted, they’ll simply move the year of reckoning to a future date. It’s a con game that the public is finally starting catch onto.

    • Andy OZ says:

Same as the 2012 Apocalypse. What happens in 2013? Do they blame the Mayans for not having their calendar peer reviewed or do they finally fess up and say “We are a simple minded bunch and won’t bother you again with this alarmist nonsense!”

    • I don’t think it’s that simple… The theory might still be plausible even if Antarctica was not warming if you postulated UV, atmospheric circulation patterns, etc. The fact that polar amplification is looking more like bi-polar amplification (North warming, South cooling) doesn’t necessarily kill the “enhanced greenhouse gas” theory…

The real problem, and this is the elephant in the room, is that the atmospheric warming trends are messed up (opposite to models), water vapour does not appear to be increasing as per model expectations, and of course we have the issue of the “missing heat”. The current claim is that this has all mysteriously ended up in the deep ocean, a region where we have few measurements, and if it has gone there, it also means we appear to have a non-problem.

  6. Chewage says:

For the past 12 years the MSM appear to have reported on global warming/climate change/climate wierding in a political science argument VS a geo-physical argument (Hence the publics understanding or lack thereof).
It would seem those with high IQ’s tend not to migrate to journalism.
If you understand the CO2 + feedback/amplification factor of X3, GREAT, if not, find out what the argument is about.
If you do find out what the true argument is, you’ll also understand why climatologists will not and have not debated the subject!
Also, take note of the tropospheric height driven jet stream at the poles (much lower, wouldn’t you know) and the tropospheric elemental constituents as they make they way higher.
What are the carbon dioxide levels at 800hPa, 500hPA, 300hPa, right on up to 10hPA heights?
What do the experts know about argon and the rest of the elemental constituents mixing and interactions at height throughout the troposphere and above?
Ask Trenberth why he gave up his studies in the great atmospheric chemical domain a few years ago…
Ask our extreme experts how their models incorporate interactions between the Indian Ocean Dipole, NAO, PDO, AO, Antarctic Stream, MEI with solar – planetary processes and the chemical digressions through height, pressures and gravitational limits…
What we have is a failure to communicate (and bozos running the show)!

  8. Michael D Smith says:

Alarmists just can’t catch a break lately.

  9. gator69 says:

There sure are alot of crickets on this tread…

  10. levi from queens says:

FWIW, the great worry about Arctic ice loss is that it will decrease the reflectivity of the Earth. Southern sea ice is more important because it gets more sunshine, being further from the pole than is the arctic ice. Ergo, the two together make for a net cooling effect.

sadly the link to UIUC is broken. Somebody from Rabett Run or SkS probably called the university and complained.
