The Washington DC based US Drought Monitor has finally upgraded Fort Collins from “Severe Drought” to”Abnormally Dry”
Conditions here are the wettest I have ever seen. The snow and rain has been almost continuous for the past two months, and everything is mud. No chance of a lunchtime ride today, as we are getting slammed with pouring rain and hail.
It’s a dry wet.
Yes, an unique type of moisture not seen before, both disruptive and weird. No ordinary rain, this is global warming rain.
Duluth, MN is abnormally dry, despite over 50 inches of snow in April, an all time record for any month by a wide margin. Rapid City, SD is in a drought after receiving over 40″ of snow in April.

In the UK the Met Office predicted a drought last year shortly followed by the ‘wettest drought on record’. Good to see our American cousins are following suit š
I just went for a run and was out by Spring Canyon Park. Don’t think I’ve ever seen it that green out there (by Pineridge). It’ll be even greener after absorbing the rain from earlier today (and the leftover unabsorbed stuff from yesterday).

I just rode my bike through there about a half hour ago.
I guess Scott was lucky you did not run him down! š
What you folks are missing is that snow is frozen and therefore dry. This means additional snow increases the dryness in an area. Do I have to explain everything to you???
That’s funny! š
What’s even cooler is that the US Drought Monitor has northwestern Wisconsin as “moderately dry”, whereas the April Palmer Index has that area in an above average moisture category. How’s that for good agreement?

About normal for government work! That is consistent with model projections! š
