Has Obama Lost Control Of The Oceans?

ScreenHunter_261 May. 16 06.27

In 2008, Obama announced that he had taken control of sea level.

I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal

Five years later it appears that King Canute isn’t doing so well. I have also heard rumors that we took care of the sick even before 2008, and that “generations from now” we are going to be very, very old.

    Three thoughts:

    1. What happened to the Jason-1 line? I thought it was still operational, but they seem to have stopped graphing it about a year ago:

    Any idea why?

    2. That graph is the version that adds Peltier’s hypothetical 0.3 mm/yr adjustment for the modeled sinking of the ocean floors. The version of the graph without that adjustment shows only 2.74 mm/yr:

    3. Of course, as you’ve pointed out, the barely-visible yellow Envisat data has been massively revised in mysterious ways, which make it’s numbers closer to the Jason numbers; here’s what the graph looked like ~15 months ago (with the ENVISAT line color-adjusted to make it clearly visible):

Enhanced snowfall on the East Antarctic ice sheet is projected to significantly mitigate 21st century global sea level rise. In recent years (2009 and 2011), regionally extreme snowfall anomalies in Dronning Maud Land, in the Atlantic sector of East Antarctica, have been observed.(..) Comparisons with historical data that originate from firn cores, one with records extending back to the 18th century, confirm that accumulation anomalies of this scale have not occurred in the past ~60?years, although comparable anomalies are found further back in time.

“I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when I started to lie my pants off about everything.”

Yeh. That sounds better. Must have been a glitch in the prompter 😉

Just to be pedantic King Cnut in 1028, before the enslavement of we Brits in 1066 by monarchs who insisted they were divinely chosen, Cnut was demonstrating to his courtiers that he was not divine as he couldn’t stop the tide & that only god could do this. It was only later monarchs who had this sort of divine belief & some would say still do.
