So let me get this straight. The government collects a “tax”, then issues a rebate to the consumer for that tax. And it costs the government nothing to administer this plan, right?
Oh, but wait. It costs to administer this plan. So where does the money to cover the cost come from? Hmmmm…..could it be the tax?
So you pay $3k in taxes, and they give you back $1,500. Yea! See how soon you will be rich!
I can do it faster for you. Just send me all your money. I will immediately return half of it to you. You will. be rich immediately! No need to wait for the government to make you rich at $1500 a year!

That’s exactly what they did in Australia – except they “overcompensated” the punters. They give them more than what what they will pay in increased electricity charges. What could possibly go worng?

It’s always all about State enforced control of cash flows . Why else is the entire population included in Social Security and its spawn rather than just the “poor” .
The redistribution watermelons care about is into State’s accounts .

Plus, if you raise the cost of producing energy EVERYTHING goes up in price … not just your utility bills. Food, fuel, water, clothes, entertainment … beer. Everything.
As any economist* of repute knows about international finance, you need more inflation for the economy to grow. To keep growth up inflation has to rise. But US inflation is stagnant so if we tax everything inflation will go up problem solved!

When a government promises to return all the tax you know you are being conned.
Phase 1 is to get the principle of paying a lot of new tax accepted.
Phase 2, et seq, find reasons for reducing the percentage returned.
They seem to have forgotten what they are for and who put them there.
Exactly right. Once you lose ownership and assign it to the state, you lose your freedom. And before someone jumps up and says we already pay taxes – that is true. And we lost a measure of freedom for it. The more you pay, the more you lose.
A carbon tax is recognized to be a tax on the poor. I thought Obama was just taxing the rich.
Obamacare is a tax on the middle class. A $1,000,000,000,000 tax on the middle class.
I read that the individual is on average taxed about 30% of his income, and that business pays about 50% of Federal taxes. I wonder what the average total tax burden is in the U.S. if one regards all business taxes as ultimately paid by the consumer. This seems as though it may be as high as 60%. That would be the same as the 3/5 paid by medieval serfs. Then the only difference would be that our overall total income is greater. Then add in Obama’s socialized health care…
CO2 is a “trace gas” in air, insignificant by definition. It absorbs 1/7th as much IR, heat energy, from sunlight as water vapor which has 80 times as many molecules capturing 560 times as much heat making 99.8% of all “global warming.” CO2 does only 0.2% of it. For this we should destroy our economy?
Carbon combustion generates 80% of our energy. Control and taxing of carbon would give the elected ruling class more power and money than anything since the Magna Carta of 1215 AD.
