U.S. Military ‘Power Grab’ Goes Into Effect

Pentagon Unilaterally Grants Itself Authority Over ‘Civil Disturbances’
The manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombing suspects offered the nation a window into the stunning military-style capabilities of our local law enforcement agencies. For the past 30 years, police departments throughout the United States have benefitted from the government’s largesse in the form of military weaponry and training, incentives offered in the ongoing “War on Drugs.” For the average citizen watching events such as the intense pursuit of the Tsarnaev brothers on television, it would be difficult to discern between fully outfitted police SWAT teams and the military.
The lines blurred even further Monday as a new dynamic was introduced to the militarization of domestic law enforcement. By making a few subtle changes to a regulation in the U.S. Code titled“Defense Support of Civilian Law Enforcement Agencies” the military has quietly granted itself the ability to police the streets without obtaining prior local or state consent, upending a precedent that has been in place for more than two centuries.

He has already announced that he can kill US citizens on US soil – if he doesn’t like them.

This is huge. I never in my life thought I would see this happen here. If I did not know our military in a very intimate and personal way, I would be scared Barackless right now.
In the period before the second World War, Stalin unleashed a violent state terror system upon the Russian people. They were forced to build rail roads, steelworks, mines and cities in record time despite mass deportations, executions of political, economical, agricultural and military leadership and wide spread famines sky rocketing mortality rates. Despite being a ruthless tyrannical mass murder Stalin was deeply loved and honored, even today. People perform best under life threatening circumstances and the Stockholm Syndrome wipes out any aggressive feelings against the perpetrator: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome
But Americans are no Russians. It they get shot at, they will shoot back.
The buck stops here…. No it won’t: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2013/05/14/benghazi-irs-ap-scandals-will-buck-ever-stop-with-obama/
Then be very scared gator, because Obama’s so called Military Officer “Corpse” are not the Military Officer Corp of our youth. They are a new and I might add a much more PC group of men and women than ever before, all of them rigorously indoctrinated into Political Correctness at the most left wing Universities in America, the Service Academies. Every officer destine for high command now is vetted for slavish devotion to POTUS before he is retained in the service. Many of these New Age officers stepping up to command now make Obama or Hillary look like Glen Beck by comparison. With this new group of commanders you can kiss any 21st Century version of “Operation Valkyrie” nighty night.
I have no fear of our military. I still have family and friends serving, my brother still has his pentagon contacts, and the only armed worry other than gangs is Homeland Security.
If a real conservative ever get in power he will have to fire every single Obama appointment in every department, not to mention eliminating many departments all
together. (And he better do this in the first days, with full security attending immediate removal of personel from goverment property and taking nothing with them) That being said I wish I had gators confidence. Between HLS and certain factions of the new PC military, combined with certain well known human psychology of what people will do in herd mentality, it is a bit scary.
Sorry to annoy you, but this was first thought of by G2. When he created DHS one of his signing statements was elimination of pose commitas. Basically saying troops against americans.
Posse Comitatus, anyone? Anyone?
Just in case newbies don’t recognize the term, here’s the facts:
“…The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, still in effect, was passed to prevent U.S. military personnel from acting as law enforcement agents on U.S. soil.
While the Act is seen as an essential element of the American civil liberties framework, it originally represented a profound betrayal of African-American Southerners by the federal government. In the Reconstruction years following the American Civil War, U.S. troops were stationed in the South to protect recently-freed black slaves, allowing them to vote and function as free people. But when Republicans agreed to end Reconstruction in exchange for electoral votes during the controversial 1876 presidential election, they sold out black Southerners, who were condemned to a near-century of Jim Crow laws with almost no federal protection. The Posse Comitatus Act, which withdrew U.S. troops from Southern soil, was a central part of this betrayal.
The text of the Posse Comitatus Act…(as 18 U.S.C. Section 1385), reads:
Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or the Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both…”
According to the new “rule”: “…Federal military commanders have the authority, in extraordinary emergency circumstances where prior authorization by the President is impossible and duly constituted local authorities are unable to control the situation, to engage temporarily in activities that are necessary to quell large-scale, unexpected civil disturbances…”
Amazing that they weren’t used in the “large-scale, unexpected civil disturbance” that took place in Benghazi.
I am also not as confident as Gator – who will brave enough to disobey orders??
Anyways, these are the guys they (the military) will be backing up…

The American military is the easiest nut to crack for a would-be dictator. We are witnessing the unfolding of the game plan right now.
The first domino was Gen. Petraeus, which was a clear wake-up call for the carreer military officer corps: anyone can be rousted out of the service. Almost no one is without skeletons in their closet. And if someone is honest, ethical and courageous, what, exactly, can they do when surrounded by ambitious, self-serving officers? We saw it in Viet Nam: those who led from the rear in order to get their ‘tickets punched’ were the ones who rose the fastest.
The next domino will be a loyalty test. The President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. When orders come down for the military to resolve a situation involving U.S. civilians, it will be a carefully orchestrated test. Any officer refusing to obey direct orders will be made a major example. The rest will fall in line, and anyone who believes that the officer corps will side with citizens over their military chief is simply naive. The small minority that refuses will be made an example for the rest.
And the courts are no help. As we see, the Obama Administration already got to Chief Justice Roberts over Obamacare. NO ONE expected the deciding vote to come from John Roberts. But they got to him — is there any doubt? The facts speak for themselves. So the courts will be no help.
We have a criminal in the White House, with another criminal Attorney General. We had a tax cheat in charge of the IRS; look at how that organization was corrupted. Who will stop these criminals? The feckless Congress? Ha! As if.
Riddle me this: if Obama decides to stay in charge after 2016, who will do anything about it? Who CAN do anything about it?
It’s over, folks.
Well said as usual! I have come to terms with the fact that as Adams said, the Constitution is inadequate for the current population. A plurality of the Founders greatly over-estimated human integrity and greatly underestimated evil.
The fact is that there are no safeguards except the honor system and that envelop keeps getting pushed over time, and perhaps now we have the cretin in place to poke all the way through and call our bluff.
I think we are at the last two possibilities now – a bunch of new non-Congress-approved Amendments via a Convention of the States – or Civil War again. Salvation will not come from Congress and certainly not from the Supreme Court. The three branches are clearly all in favor of status quo at the minimum, and increasing centralization to DC. We are completely off the rails of the Constitution now. But perhaps we need a tyrant to kickstart these things?
P.S. haven’t seen you at WUWT in the longest time, which is a shame. Everything okay?
“P.S. haven’t seen you at WUWT in the longest time, which is a shame. Everything okay?”
I second that, your straight forward consistency and well organised links are missed.
The American constitution is a valiant effort at keeping power mongers at bay…but they have been whittling away at it from the very first supreme court decision.
Honest men cannot compete with those who will do anything for power.
Missing in these conversations are the impetus or stimuli to bring on actions as events unfold.
Free society economies are barely alive and being replaced with the bizarre ideas that no longer mimic Keynesian rational, yet the economic sheep speak as if the world Governments are following those old ideas.
The societal disruptions, deviations and strife brought on by this administration and fellow followers in the EU may not work as they’d like, so what will their plan B, C or D be?
The military as a whole and the DHS are not yet ready (in anyone’s eyes) to bring wholesale force, short of a civil war, yet that is the 1st step, war from within.
What is the end game and who in power chooses the next steps???
Discontent, loathing and hate toward your neighbors seem to be the immediate goal using envy, greed, fear and all the other nasty human perceptions and it is happening at full speed. This president and his administration are doing everything imaginable to feed the flames in a somewhat covert manner.
They may believe it’ll take another 1-2 years to reach their goals and if the media actually wakes up, a backlash of unprecedented magnitude will occur.
