Tornado Power Dwarfs Atomic Bomb

Residents of Moore, Okla., return to sheer devastation after a massive tornado that killed 24, releasing an amount of energy that dwarfed even the power of the atomic bomb that leveled Hiroshima, according to experts.

Did any of these experts bother to consider how stupid and offensive that statement is? The death toll at Hiroshima was 140,000. It flattened twelve square miles – vaporizing tens of thousands of people in the blink of an eye.

    Sounds like Hansen’s “..current imbalance of 0.6 watts/square meter (which does not include the energy already used to cause the current warming of 0.8°C) was equivalent to exploding 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs every day, 365 days per year.”

    What a turd. The usual disclaimer “according to experts” is pretty pathetic.

    Did any of these experts bother to consider

    no.

  3. Jambon-X says:

    EVERY thunderstorm “dwarfs” the energy of the Hiroshima bomb. Kids used to learn this in the 5th grade.

    “A 1953 study found that the average thunderstorm over several hours expends enough energy to equal 50 A-bombs of the type that was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan during World War Two.”

    But, but, but the MODELS!

    When I saw Fox News leading off with this this AM – “Nuclear Tornado”, I thought what a pathetic use of meaningless facts to get a catchy headline. Clearly innappropriate and uncalled for. Seriously, a day of strong winds probably release more energy than the A bomb in Hiroshima, but they are not comparable.

  6. Ben says:

    False comparison. Energy vs power = (Energy per unit of time) vs Energy

    It isn’t the energy of the A-Bomb that makes it devastating, it’s the power per unit area.

    The energy per unit of time per unit of area of an atomic bomb compared to a tornado? A-bomb wins hands down.

    Still skeptical? How many limbs were severed by a tiny pressure cooker in Boston vs the Moore tornado? Was it the energy expended, or the energy expended per unit of time that mattered?

  7. Billy Liar says:

    This how the MSM see it:

    Tornado = frighten
    Nuclear = double frighten

    Use both in headline – double good.

  8. upcountrywater says:

    It’s all about Minimising the destructive force of a nuclear bomb…..
    Aw don’t worry about that, tornadoes are worse…
    So will ya just forget about the iranian nuke build up…for crap sakes…
