When I was child, boys were encouraged to learn how to use rifles responsibly so that they would be able to defend their country, if necessary.
Now they are taught to be terrified of guns, so that they won’t be able to defend their country if necessary.

When I was a child, real men had hair on their chest. Now men shave their body hair. Could you say that men are getting feminized?
Anything that weakens the feds is welcome.
Your dad must have been one of those dangblasted radicals, of the military hardass variety (cf., “The Great Santini”, starring Robert Duvall, or Clint–“Ha Ha, a movie star”–Eastwood). When we’uns back in the hills of Missouri were kids, we were taught to hunt with guns, for food, and some mention was made of protecting your family and maybe the neighbors, and that’s as far as it went unless somebody knew somebody in the military (see the hardass reference above).
My first weapon was a 25 lb bow. I was 6 years old. I also had a BB Gun. My brother was 7, so he got a .22LR. But I got to shoot it a few times. We would spend all day exploring in the mountains around Lake Tahoe. 50 ft up in a treehouse, or dangling off a cliff somewhere.
sadly today….you would be arrested…for being a kid and having fun….
Obama said “no American should own an assault weapon”.
Obama recently said ” we need to arm the Syrian rebels with assault weapons”.
I’m curious if the asshole is bipolar:)
Whatever, one thing is for sure, he’s a an incredible nutcase: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/20/science/earth/obama-preparing-big-effort-to-curb-climate-change.html?hp
He put up the price of carbon and now he is going to cash. He’s a gangster really.
Almost all politicians are corrupt and / or gangster otherwise they would not be allowed to reach the top. They don’t like honest people up there.
BINGO
Alright… alright… enough. So what do we do damint? I’m truly fed-up with what is happening around me, but what should I do about it? Do I call my “representatives” who don’t give a shit about me? Do write a letter to the President who certainly doesn’t give a shit about me? Do I run away? Maybe move to the mountains and log off the internet and spend the rest of my days hunting and gathering berries? What do I do huh? I’m not poor… but I have no faith in the money I have saved (if the bloody fed has their way it is worthless anyway)… I own gold and silver and weapons and food… but what do I do with it??? I’m so tired of being stressed out by the fucking news and the shit raining down around me. What do I do huh?
Who is John Galt?
Hey if you have food etc, just be sure you are friends with your neighbors. Then break out margarita, set a chair on the porch and watch it all go down.
My father’s father died 3 months before he was born, and he had an ‘uncle’ who was there for him in his early days. This gentleman gave my father his first firearm, a bolt action .22 that I now have. WIth this gun, my father received an even larger gift that kept giving for the rest of his life. A twp page letter accompanied the rifle, explaining the resposibilities of being a man through the care and proper use of this most useful tool. I wish I could have met the man who helped put my father on the right track for the remaninder of his days, but at least I still have the letter and my dad’s first firearm.

It must be terrible to live in a land where the government has taken over firearms education, and is apparently treating them the way cigarets are being treated. Where do you live?
Over here in the United States, politicians are mostly afraid to even suggest any form of gun control– even obvious no-brainers like denying permits to known nut jobs. Education on a child’s attitudes toward guns has been left entirely in the hands of parents. Any school teacher attempting to inject an opinion in the classroom would be quickly removed from their job.
So under our system, all the parents believing that guns are an essential tool to establish one’s manhood (and should be encouraged for girls as well) get to bring their kids up in that belief. It’s just like the Methodists get to teach their kids Methodism and the Catholics Catholicism. It’s a free country as a matter of law.
And all the parents believing that guns kill tens of thousands of people every year in this country are likewise free to pass that opinion along to their own children.
I think it’s that last part that really chews some people.
The violent crime rate in the US is one eighth of that in the UK. Unless they live in a heavily Democratic neighborhood, American children are some of the safest in the world.
