  1. Good news for the rowers, there is a dipole projected for the Arctic that will open up basin wide sunny skies and cause a huge solar influx.

    On the other hand, that is very very bad news for the ice.

    Key word: BLOWTORCH

  2. What’s your point?
    They are leaving Vancouver today and it will take 5 days to reach Inuvik NWT. It will take them 2 days to row from Inuvik to the ocean. Do you honestly believe there is going to be 90 percent ice concentration 7 days from now?

    I want some of what you are smoking!

    • Chewer says:

      They’re due to depart July 1st via their declaration. They plan on a 75 day global warming awareness adventure and look like complete assholes.
      In 75 days from their departure, they’ll be in deep shit and freezing you crackhead:)

  3. Kevin Vallely was on AM Canada this morning and told the interviewer that they were leaving later today.
    Steve, what’s with all the name calling?

  4. Sundance says:

    It’s going to be 19 degrees below the normal daytime high in the Chicago area tomorrow. We could sure use some of that Arctic blow torch. lol

  5. Justa Joe says:

    Ice neurosis, it’s the new abnormal.

  6. mkelly says:

    Reggie says: “…you think I am happy that the ice is in disappearing?”

    I don’t mind my ice disappearing when I am sipping my JD.

    • squid2112 says:

      I still would like to know what the hell difference it makes. What has it changed? What will it change? Obviously polar bears don’t seem to mind. So what exactly is the “tragedy” here? … let it all melt … so fricken what?

      • gregole says:

        Squid,

        You are so right on. Who cares? So what? effing ice. Really.

        Winter will come again to the arctic with it the ice, darkness, and cold.

        • T.O.O says:

          gregole,
          At least two things will happen that should be of concern (1) More open ocean for longer periods of time in the northern summer will mean more solar radiation absorbed — a lot more as water is a world class solar radiation absorber and (2) the temperature difference between the Arctic and the tropics will become less which will weaken the jet stream which will cause more of the crazy type of weather we have in North America at the moment.

        • Latitude says:

          which will cause more of the crazy type of weather we have in North America at the moment.
          ====
          Laz, it’s only half a degree….

        • Gregole – your comment is typical of that point in the conversation when you’ve basically conceded the point under discussion. Rather than face that directly, the goal posts move. Nice.

          1 – Sea ice is changing in a way (speed of decline) that is not natural. This is a sign of AGW. Believe it or not, there are still some folks out there who prefer not believe that AGW exists.

          2 – There does seem to be a connection between the Arctic and the jet stream, and there certainly is a connection between the jet stream and the weather. There is a connection between the weather and your taxes. ‘Nuff said.

        • squid2112 says:

          HAhaha…hahaha….hahahaha [breath] .. hahaha .hahaha

          @T.O.O – BULLSHIT!

          @David – You’re an idiot

          Both of you are quite the comedic relief however. Thanks for that! … ROLFMAO

        • gator69 says:

          “1 – Sea ice is changing in a way (speed of decline) that is not natural.”

          Bullshit David! There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING unusual or unprecedented about sea ice.

          Nada.

          Zippo.

          It is all well within the bounds of natural variability, and the fact that you said otherwise means that you are dishonest, stupid, or both.

          And they wonder why we point and laugh as we call their name, Chicken Little! πŸ˜†

          Look out for they acorn little buddy! πŸ˜†

  7. Sundance says:

    Reggie sounds unaware that the Arctic was often ice free in the summers in the Early Holocene. Of course that was when ice melt was significant and Arctic waters were 16 degreesC warmer in summer than today. Reggie reminds me of these clowns.

    • Andy Oz says:

      I wonder if they’ve had background checks for those shotguns they are carrying. I wish them luck on their religious pilgrimage to the promised land. Of course they’d have better luck rowing the Mediterranean from Spain to Syria.

    • Olaf Koenders says:

      Arrgh.. what eco loons. Bet they got there in their fossil fuelled SUV’s. Reckon Reggie, sponsored by Brawndo, sponsored by Kevin Vallely doesn’t know who he’s supporting just so he can feel morally superior.

  8. gofer says:

    In the 70’s, they were trying to figure out ways to melt it.

  9. Andy Oz says:

    They’ve made it to Chilliwick. Go Team!!

  10. BC says:

    Lil’ Reggie (aka “Mikey Mann’s Lame Sock Puppet”), would you mind explaining, without of equivocation, evasion or prevarication, precisely how that 1.5-2.5-mile-thick sheet of ice covering at least 1/3 of the Northern Hemisphere was able to melt away in the blink of a geological eye a few thousand years ago, without the help of our Eeeeeeeeevil SUV’s o’ Doom</strong? Anything other than an immediate, non-obfuscating answer will immediately render you persona non grata.
