James Blalog has placed videos all over airports showing a perfectly ordinary picture of a glacier covered with grit, and saying that “the military has determined that global warming will cost dollars, and lives.”
Is he suggesting that driving a hybrid will stop glaciers from getting covered with dust and rock fragments?
To the military, EVERYTHING costs dollars, and lives. It’s their schtick.
Steven, if I’m correctly understanding the image and message that you are describing, I think he is trying to suggest that we in the vocal skeptic and realist community, by forcing him to drive a hybrid or a coal- or nuclear-powered car instead of the 100% solar- and wind-powered car that he would prefer (which I guess he believes he would have already if not for us meddling kids) are attacking and killing “his” beloved glacier, and that if we don’t cut it out soon, he or his pals are going to get their Obama to sic the military on us.
So I see it as a very thickly veiled, perhaps unconscious threat or fantasy– “We have your military now, and we’re not afraid to use them on you since you do so ever have it coming!”
Not the most edifying message I’ve ever received.

What doesn’t cost dollars and lives? Birth is the leading cause of death.
A poster of Tom Karl with a scowl, holding an M16 and the message “Global Warming Denial has Consequences” would be more effective (and closer to the true sentiment)
Why isn’t he up on a glacier with a broom?
