I have a vague recollection of this happening back in the ’60s. I was pretty young, 5…. but I remember the Missile Crisis clearly.
Aaaaagggghhhh global cooling, we’re all gonna freeze. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Imagine if that picture was repeated today. “They” would ban electricity.
Shock News! The sea ice at the North Pole was frozen solid in 1962, until the Skate and the Seadragon made a hole in it:

That picture was obviously taken on a different trip to the North Pole. Most likely in March 1959. Did you somehow miss the open water and rounded melted edges to the ice in the picture above?
I really hope that your observation skills are better than you pretend.
The caption says “at the North Pole, 1962”. I guess we shouldn’t believe those captions then?
Do you think there was only one day in 1962? It obviously was not taken on the same day.
What did they make the hole with? A nuclear device?
They made the holes with the submarines’ sail sections.

On 7 July 1962, Skate (SSN-578) again pointed her bow towards the North Pole. Five days later, sister ship Seadragon (SSN-584) based in Pearl Harbor, did likewise. The mission of the two submarines was to rendezvous under the ice there. They began rendezvous procedures on 31 July. After the historic meeting, the two ships operated together for over a week. Both submarines surfaced at the North Pole on 2 August and official greetings and insignia of the Submarine Forces, Atlantic Fleet and Pacific Fleet, were exchanged.
Skate is seen there in a photo dated a week later.
Both pictures are from 1962, likely not the same day.

What’s my point ?
Looking at the archived pics, it is obvious that there were open stretches and melted areas as well as frozen sections in 1958-59 and 62.
And now researchers are constantly drilling thousands of holes in it. I don’t think the problem is CO2.
1962 – melted yes, however I notice they aren’t wearing their Speedos.
I have slides of the rendezvous. My father was on the Polaris. All ice!
