We have often noticed that in the tabular statements of those compilers of weather records who write to the Times, useful and welcome as their communications are, every season is sure to be “extraordinary,” almost every month one of the driest or wettest, or windiest, coldest or hottest, ever known. Much observation, which ought to correct a tendency to exaggerate, seems in some minds to have rather a tendency to increase it.
10 Jan 1871 – IMAGINARY CHANGES OF CLIMATE. (Pall Mall Gazette.)
Look for Obama to say something today about the climate being “extraordinary” the “driest or wettest, or windiest, coldest or hottest, ever known”
Surely Steven you don’t mean to imply that the President of the United States of America would use language to instill fear in the public. Surely you don’t believe that our benevolent government would try to evoke an emotional response to push and agenda proven to constrict the economy and burden people. I mean, that would just be silly…….
That is what Skeeter does best!
Much can be learned from our past but politics based on plain stupidity has put us in the situation where we bake the same mistake over and over again.
Call it the “broken record” doctrine.
The only aspect that changes is the “stakes”.
The stakes getting bigger and bigger as more and more people roam the planet and as a result more people will be confronted with the fall out of such a broken record doctrine.
If only our wise men representing us had taken the time to read up on our history and learn from mistakes in the past…
The British Empire fought in Afghanistan and books were written that explained in detail why that was a bad idea. The Russians forgot about those books fought in Afghanistan losing the war.
Books were written why invading Afghanistan was a bad idea.
The Americans and their Allies forgot all about the books. The British books, the Russian books and they invaded Afghanistan.
In the mean time many more books are written why that was a bad idea. We’ve done Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and they were all bad idea’s. Our leadership is totally incompetent and they simply refuse to read the books.
And now we have a President who is the personification of the “broken record doctrine” pushing “broken record Bills” and legislators, chosen to represent the people who vote for those Bills without reading them.
Of course nobody believes we have a problem…..
It’s true! Hasen’s family tree of alarmohucksters goes all the way back…
