Half of the population of Oklahoma fled the state in the 1930s due to extreme heat and drought, as chronicled in John Steinbeck’s “Grapes of Wrath.”

No Steven, the first verifiable American climate refugees were the Anasazi Native American Peoples of Color whose civilization was first devastated and then finally destroyed in the 13th Century by a drought that was triggered by CO2 generated from the burning of witches and warlocks during the dark and middle ages.
They Anasazi were Americans? 😉
LOL, they probably didn’t understand the reference and just deleted it because they’re familiar with Steve! Or, it could be that they hate the 1930s drought and dust bowl. It sort of blows up the things are getting more “extreme” mantra.
The Anasazi left the Mesa Verde area for Arizona and New Mexico around A.D. 1300. There are dozens of examples of American climate refugees.
This month’s Nat Geo Mag reports periodic droughts in the Yucatan from AD 770 to 1100.
We have surpassed even Orwell’s 1984
