   The above normal sea ice must be a result of all those Category 6 hurricanes spinning about in Al Gores noggin 😉

   The funniest exchange I’ve had was at Bloomberg where a true believer explained to me that the warmth caused melting which then increased the amount of fresh water in polar regions and since fresh water freezes at a slightly warmer temp than pure sea water the entire process resulted in increased sea ice!!
   I bet the same fellow is hard at work on a perpetual motion machine to harness the power of this process.

     I’ve run into the same thing, wherein the processes that extract the salt from ice are taking all out of context. The Arctic Sea is actually only a little less salty than the ocean elsewhere, when ice is melting. I think its freezing point is two tenths of a degree higher. As the new ice forms each year salt is exuded. This creates a cold brine, which to some degree briefly makes the sea-water saltier, but also, because it is colder and denser, sinks and (in a manner yet not completely understood,) is the starting point of thermohaline circulation.

     When you come across an out-of-context statement such as, “The Beaufort Gyre is capped by a lens of fresh water,” just ask, “Fresh? So it freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit? Or is it only less salty, and freezes at 29?”

     He forgot to mention that temperatures in the Arctic have be colder than usual recently and in other recent years when they were not the ice recovery was not so pronounced. Maybe his “mechanism” only started to work after 2012, as some new kind of physical law invented by the warmist gods.
