I am an old guy and sometime the mental attic gets filled up, but I am reminded of a story about LBJ. It seems that Johnson had been assigned to be part of a WWII bombing mission against the Japanese. His plane developed electrical problems and had to return to base before reaching the target. The other planes which did make it to target were under heavy attack and suffered high casualties. Johnson? He ended up being given the Silver Star for his role in the raid — a raid which he did not take part in.
