There has been no change in California sea level during the lifetime of most of its residents.
Josh Willis of NASA says that that sea level will rise two metres the rest of the century.

“were” not “was” 🙂
According to this, the fall in global sea level in 2010-2011 was caused by high rainfall in Australia, some of which remained “trapped on the Australian land mass”.
http://www.npr.org/2013/08/20/213577129/how-extreme-australian-rains-made-global-sea-levels-drop?
My initial reaction is that this seems unlikely, but I haven’t had a chance to look at it in detail.
My first reaction is crap. A volumetric calculation might be required but I reckon it’s a waste of time. Sea area is 361 million km2. Australia is 7.7 million km2 and less than half was flooded.
not to mention the depth!:-)
My second reaction is also crap.
Not only did Australia not flood enough, but look how extreme they said the drought was in the US and other countries. If we received 10 inches less rain than normal, then we received 254 mm less rain than normal. If the water that would have fallen on the US and other countries was not sequestered on land, then it would have increased sea level, since relative humidity did not increase from 2010-2012.
Andy, thanks for the comment.
Are you located in Australia?
If so, do you know of a source of historical monthly rainfall figures by state?
I tried using the Australian Bureau of Meteorology website but I seem to get directed to individual weather stations.
I thought the UKMO website was bad!
We have a prediction of 2.3 meters in 2000 years, 2 meters in 87 years, 1 foot on the Virginia coast in 87 years, 2′ on the Virgnina coast in 87 years. And it’s probably an exponential increase so we won’t see it until just before it happens. Add to that various estimates (linear) of sea level increase from 1.15 mm/yr to 3.2 mm/yr plust the previously un noticed sea level decrease due to rain in Australia. This is what you get from settled science that cannot be questioned by mere mortals. What do you choose to believe? Looks like my speculative purchase of beach front property along the Virginia fall line is a very long term investiment.
If we keep eating the way we have, it may happen when we all take a dip in the ocean!
So what would happen to the sea level if everybody jumped into the ocean at the same time?
CLIMATE CHANGE made sea levels FALL in 2010 and 2011 on The Register – http://theregister.co.uk/2013/08/20/climate_change_made_sea_levels_fall_in_2010_and_2011/
Well, it appears that it is a peer reviewed paper, so I suppose they must know what they are talking about but I remain doubtful.
I used that quote by Mark Twain as part of an introduction when teaching Chem or physics. It is at the end of a little wild Mark Twain type story. Posting the whole thing might be fun.
In the space of one hundred and seventy-six years the Lower Mississippi has shortened itself two hundred and forty-two miles. That is an average of a trifle over one mile and a third per year. Therefore, any calm person, who is not blind or idiotic, can see that in the Old Oolitic Silurian Period, just a million years ago next November, the Lower Mississippi River was upwards of one million three hundred thousand miles long, and stuck out over the Gulf of Mexico like a fishing-rod. And by the same token any person can see that seven hundred and forty-two years from now the Lower Mississippi will be only a mile and three-quarters long, and Cairo and New Orleans will have joined their streets together, and be plodding comfortably along under a single mayor and a mutual board of aldermen. There is something fascinating about science. One gets such wholesale returns of conjecture out of such a trifling investment of fact.

OT Steve, Why do they Groom the Greenland Summit area after each snowfall like today.

Polar bears (the locals) left footprints in the bunkers the inconsiderate sods. Big Ambrose tournament this weekend.
They are just mowing the fairways!
They do that to keep the Ice Plant neat!
To pack the snow down. It will eventually be in a big bowl.
I have the same problem at my house every winter.
Anyways, it makes travel possible, and compresses the accumulation so they don’t get buried as fast.
Think of all the soot! I can see the headline: “Greenland melt caused by soot from climatologist’s vehicles”.
There is almost No Greenland melt going on at the moment.

I agree – but “they” don’t care about the facts…
OT again Steve, The Arctic rowing team are they French? The large vessel that is not far behind them is recruited by France

The 4 are from Canada and Ireland. There is a team of two Firemen from Quebec in a sea kayak. There there is a couple of Aussies in a sail boat. There are a couple of Swiss in a sail boat. I can track the first three groups. The Aussies mentioned the other sail boat and you provide a link to a different one. That comes to five groups of Darwin award wannabees so far, travelling from West to East.
The leaked IPCC report pins SLR at 10 inches to 3 feet by 2100. Greenland ice will not be sliding into oceans any more quickly according to new research.

Antarctic has managed net mass balance gain of 49Gt of ice per year since 2003 so how is Willis getting 2 meters? Is Trendbirther cracking his alarmist whip again and putting the climate fear into Willis? 🙂
Josh Willis needs to be taken off Argo before we lose another dataset like what happened with GISS and Hansen. Activists clearly have no sense of the difference between reality and fantasy.
ARGO is already FUBAR!
SLR, like the missing heat, is hiding at the BOTTOM of the ocean.
All the water is causing the sea floor to sink, that is where the level is going, Now the ocean floor is sinking faster than extra water is being added and sea levels are falling! 🙁
How do you know someone didn’t just open the drain down there?
Well that could have happened!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xtff1ROz10
sea level not increasing because missing heat makes bottom soggy and prone to open up cavities where water disappears
there is enough science there for a paper in ERL!!!
Steven:
You are talking about the Left Coast! They voted for Arnie and returned MoonBeam to office. They gave us Boxer, Pelosi, Feinstein, Waxman and a bunch of other wonderful Congress Critters. All that and you expect them to notice a little sea level rise. They were to Busy with such exciting things as the “High Speed” OJ Chase.
According to the latest sea level budget report from NOAA, sea level is rising at 1-2mm per year. 4″ by 2100.
http://ibis.grdl.noaa.gov/SAT/SeaLevelRise/documents/NOAA_NESDIS_Sea_Level_Rise_Budget_Report_2012.pdf
The way I read it, it could be almost as high as 3mm but could be less than 1mm. That’s about right for “climate science”. Reporting factually on matters they actually are unable to report factually on, due to technical limitations of their measurement instrumentation. 😉
But Will, that 1-3mm means TEOTWAWKI!!
I wonder if the alarmist climate scientists ever stop and think about how completely wacky their conclusions are? If sea levels were falling at 1-3mm per year and I made the statement “The Earth is drying up and life will end by 2050”, no-one anywhere would pay any attention, and rightly so. On the subject of measurement, we can accurately measure global alarmists IQ which is firmly stuck in double figures and falling. 😀
By the way Steven, I left a few comments here, and in one comment I repeated this prediction of doom from James Hansen in 1988: “[in twenty years {2008}] the West Side Highway [and thus much of Manhattan] will be under water.”
A warmist troll replied: “The amount of mental gynastics required to create the Hansen quote our of what he actually said is breath-taking. The “in 20 years” is simply made up… I can’t find any reliable sources for the rest of your statements (only blogs repeating them with no links to originals).”
For my reply to the troll I used the 2001 Salon article that you have in the past linked to as well: http://www.salon.com/2001/10/23/weather/
My reply:
Nothing is inaccurate as you say. And the 20 year prediction by Hansen that much of Manhattan would be under water by 2008 is not made up. No links allowed here, but do a site search from google of the salon site, and you find the basis of it is a 1988 interview by WaPo reporter Bob Reiss. From Salon in 2001, Reiss reports: While doing research 12 or 13 years ago, I met Jim Hansen, the scientist who in 1988 predicted the greenhouse effect before Congress. I went over to the window with him and looked out on Broadway in New York City and said, “If what you’re saying about the greenhouse effect is true, is anything going to look different down there in 20 years?” He looked for a while and was quiet and didn’t say anything for a couple seconds. Then he said, “Well, there will be more traffic.” I, of course, didn’t think he heard the question right. Then he explained, “The West Side Highway [which runs along the Hudson River] will be under water. And there will be tape across the windows across the street because of high winds. …”
I realize that wuwt reported in 2010 that the warmist Bob Reiss had recently retracted his point about Hansen saying that it was “20 years,” and instead insisted that he asked Hansen what Manhattan would be like in 40 years. That’s warmist revisionism, and less reliable than his original reporting. And note also that Hansen never raised an alarm in 2001 when Reiss re-reported Hansen’s “20 years” 1988 prediction about Manhattan.
Apparently, algore just wanted to get real close to the action! LOLz!
CO2 must be making soil more absorbent.
I’m glad they finally are grooming the course. The rough was getting unplayable!
“If Sea Level Were Rising, Wouldn’t The 50 Million People In California Have Noticed?”
Probably not during the 60’s at least.
this post is unreliable, as the US Senseless Bureau says the 2012 population of Failifornia is ~38 million…
the other 12 million are obviously hiding all the missing heat
You have to add on 30% undocumented immigrants.
50% where I live.
It is the rise in population that did it!
As each person is basically a bladder of protein, fat, and water hanging on a bony skeleton, and the water volume is approximately 40 liters per adult person, and there are about 9 billion people that mean about 360 billion liters, or 95 billion gallon that are removed from the biosphere. 🙂
